Hi,

I need some advice.  I met a scam girl on sugardaddymeet.com site. She tried to rob me which i didn't let her afterwards her bf sent me some threatening messages. I reported to the police instead of arresting the culprit they warned me that i hv commuhave committed a crime as paying for sex illegal in UK so i should stop going to escorts otherwise they will arrest me next time.

Does anyone has any knowledge if its true

You’ve been on here for 6 years so surely you’ve seen the numerous similar  situations people have got themselves into in here over that time police can’t stop you looking for escorts what next they going to check up on you or stop you from viewing porn. :dash: :dash:

As I understand it prostitution isn't illegal in the UK - however making money off prostituting others is.  So I don't believe you were breaking the law there.

However most of the advertising sites have a disclaimer whereby you are paying for the escort's time.  Anything else that happens is between consenting adults.

But in this instance you were simply scammed.  There's a lot of it about and the police aren't likely to care.  Chalk it up to experience and stick to more reputable SPs in the future.

Which police did you report it to? As others have pointed out it is not a crime.

Offline bedhedred

Well for the time being it is not a crime, but there are miserable fucks who are actively trying to make it a crime. They did not succeed in the latest attempt.

Cant you read ? I said police gave me warning instead of capturing the scammers. I repoted to the police and bloody two police officers rang me to warn that i committed a crime and i can be arrested now as people say its not crime so it means they were bluffing
Yes we can read. We are giving you the facts !

Paying for sex is only illegal in Northern Ireland.
In the rest of the UK it perfectly legal. However most activity around it is illegal such as a brothel keeping, pimping, trafficking, soliciting, kerb crawling. Ads state “only paying for time” to get round the soliciting law.

By the way if you encounter a trafficked sex slave or a child, you have no defence in law, regardless of what the pimp or advert told you. Do not pass go, do not collect £200.

If the OP genuinely got through to the genuine police, then their response was outrageous.

Regardless of whether they thought – perhaps understandably – that the OP's complaint was unworthy of their time and attention, brushing him off with bare-faced lies and, indeed, threats was worse than unprofessional.

Next stop the Police Complaints Commission?

Go on Youtube and find the guys that bait the police for fun.

You will learn what to say to them.

Phrases like:

"under what legislation have I committed a crime"
"are you intended to arrest me"

come in handy.

It will become quite obvious to you that they often do not know the law.

This is pretty shocking but this is Britain where nothing works properly anymore.

It was surprising he said he is going to warn the other party and he is closing the case and not taking any action against other party or against me

It was probably a case of a police officer who didn't want to fill out the necessary paperwork for a case that would be he said she said, so the dodgy cop probably used false threats to get you to fuck off so he didn't have to do his job.

Plod can be sloppy and inconsistent, like anyone in any job.

It's also the case that investigating what you detail would be quite a ballache for them, so to avoid that in future they just tried to deter you from being in that situation again?

And let that a be a lesson to you sonny.

No offence to punting wiki, but as far as legal matters are concerned I prefer the official route.  - External Link/Members Only.

As far as the OP's concerned contact the police and ask to speak to a senior officer.

That is the second link on the PW.  Just below trafficking one. Can't miss it. We send people there.

But unlike the PW, the CPS does not mention that punting (and being an escort)  is legal.  It is almost clear if one reads it very carefully that it is legal, but they spend so much talking about related activity that it seems illegal.  Many misunderstand that CPS page without context. It is truthful but nonetheless (IMHO) slanted.  Better read after the PW headline.

Good advise.  If a few of us don't object to this behaviour, who will?

Yeah - the police can be pretty ignorant of the law or choose to misrepresent it in order to achieve some outcome with unwitting members of the public.

You can see plenty of examples of the police misrepresenting the law on Youtube. E.g. attempting to shut down lawful activities such as free speech or public photography as they enjoy exerting their 'authority'.

In this case it was probably some lazy constable that didn't want to go to the trouble of helping you and was looking to deter you from pursuing the matter.

If you have a recording of the police officer telling you that "you have committed the crime" then make a complaint here

External Link/Members Only
or if it happened in Scotland here

Don't be fobbed off, you are the aggrieved party.  There may not be enough evidence to prosecute her but it will put a shot across her bows.

Meanwhile why not let us all know who she is (post a link) then none of us fall into the same trap.

Paying for sex is illegal if the girl is forced or under duress. Did the police think that was the case?
From Daviemac's weblink

Quote
Paying for Sexual Services
Relevant Law
Section 53A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, inserted by Section 14 of the Policing and Crime Act 2009, creates a summary-only offence of paying for the sexual services of a prostitute subjected to force, etc.

A person (A) commits an offence if:

A makes or promises payment for the sexual services of a prostitute (B);
A third person (C) has engaged in exploitative conduct of a kind likely to induce or encourage B to provide the sexual offences for which A has made or promised payment; and
C engaged in that conduct for or in the expectation of gain for C or another person (apart from A or B).
It is irrelevant:

Where the sexual services are provided.
If the sexual services are, in fact, provided.
Whether A is, or ought to be, aware that C has engaged in exploitative conduct.
‘Exploitative conduct’ includes:

The use of force, threats (whether or not relating to violence) or any other form of coercion.
Any form of deception.
The offence is one of strict liability. This means that it is irrelevant whether A is, or ought to be, aware that B is subject to exploitative conduct by C.

There is no statutory definition of ‘sexual services’. It is normally deemed to include acts of penetrative intercourse (as set out in section 4(4) Sexual Offences Act 2003) and masturbation. It does not include activities such as ‘stripping’, ‘lap dancing’ etc.

To add to that, ignorance of the fact they are trafficked or coerced is not a defence.

Here's my take:
The OP said in his first post "her bf sent me some threatening messages"
Did the BF have the OP's phone number?
Then the OP says later in the thread "I repoted to the police and bloody two police officers rang me to warn that i committed a crime" (sic)

I bet the BF pretended to be plod to scare him off. As he was brave enough to report it to the police and if the call to him was genuine (he recorded it) then he should make an appointment at the police station and raise it with the station Inspector who has a duty to investigate a crime.

£150 for the night?  It’s no wonder she wanted to go after a few hours! Whilst I don’t condone threatening behaviour, it sounds to me like you had a ‘few hours’ of her company yet didn’t give her any money  :unknown:

100% agree. Either the story has been exaggerated or its not the whole one. He has not been "robbed" of other than getting his end away, probably again? Sounds like there is a civil dispute over a debt. As paying for sex is not illegal, there can be a debt, even if the full contracted service was not met. The only crime, if there is one, would be one of malicious communication by the bf/pimp whatever, as it was over the phone. He is probably upset because the police told him how many beans make five and he didn't like it.

We have to take into consideration that the police (God bless them) will bend the truth, dare I say it, even lie, to try and get us to do what they want us to do.

I have recently discovered the trend on YouTube for "auditing" police stations and the interaction that then ensues and the lack of knowledge the police have about the law is astonishing

I heard the recording again and the police officer sounded like he was very pissed off that why i reported to them the incident and basically he just wanted to close the case. He told me at the end that he is going to ring the culprit to tell him off not to threat me again and the case is closed.

My understanding is that giving me false warming by the officer in other words they tried to tell not to report anything in future to them.
