On the contrary, I was stopped at the entrance to Euston station a couple of weeks ago by a line of civilian marshals backed up by BTP officers. They were speaking to everyone entering the station.

It was all very polite, I was asked the reason for my journey and I said "on my way home from a medical appointment". The woman asked "where do you live?" I said the name of the city and she replied "OK thanks, have a safe journey".

Suspect if I'd had a jobsworth it could have been more painful but as it was, no ID demanded, no hospital letter required (though I had both on me).

The marshal was quite cute too

I've managed to avoid public transport but I've not seen police stopping people on the roads. I even drove to Liverpool mid January....not for a punt....no police on the motorways or in services.
