They do both. They swab the inside of the urethra, recommend not looking down as that happens, they take a urine sample also and they take blood either by the pricky thing or from needle and syringe.

I live in London and I have the unfortunate situation of living in a postcode that they don't sent kits to. Either if they could, I would prefer a medical professional to administer it.

I've only been to two different ones. One a clinic and one a hospital. The clinic did a blood test for blood bourne stis, a urethra swab for clap and a urine sample.

The hospital was pretty much the same except they were a bit more thorough and took my blood the usual way with a syringe and pump thing like what a phlebotomist does.

If the swab is unnecessary, I hate them as its extremely uncomfortable lol. I made the rookie mistake of looking first time and seeing something go atleast 3 inches inside is nauseating.

* I think the urethra swab thing is if you mention symptoms closely resembling chlamydia. I mentioned it first time I went a couple years ago

.....and FWIW I used to get tested by NHS in Sheffield and Doncaster, Mesmac in Wakefield and Locala in Bradford and none of them use a dick swab albeit they do for the throat and arse. I now use postal piss in a bottle postal tests and pinprick bloods.

Last time I had a full work up I had a swab, although it isn’t like the umbrella treatment of years ago mine was just a cotton bud around my japs eye, this from the local sexual health clinic, great place although the nurse didn’t want to go for a drink, wonder why
