Author Topic: Punting or your mates?  (Read 1532 times)

I was just wondering how others felt about this; I work really hard and so have limited time for a social life and being single socialising is just another way of saying "I wanna get laid."

Punting of course cuts to the chase which is exactly what I want however punting is an expensive hobby, so I've made cut backs in other area of life like meeting mates and going out on the lash.

This though means that I've kinda become a hermit; working, saving and punting..... :D

Now I'm not complaining, I just wondered if I was a statistical anomaly or does this scenario resonate with other punters?

I have always done both fortunately, punted for the sex and gone out with my mates. As i have always viewed it i could meet the ONE while trying to pull, thats unlikely while punting. If i had to choose it would be my mates as they are more important to me than a punt.

what is this "socialising" that you mention? I'm definitely in the hermit camp myself.

Offline dilettante

Yes, that's exactly it, if you're single you can get the best of both/all worlds - live the lifestyle of a hermit part of the time, fasting and abstinence, live for your soul and build yourself up internally without being hassled by domestic problems; have whatever social life you want including a few drinks, live it up and enjoy yourself; family life too with arranged visits; fuck whatever women you want when you want.  It's great, the Rule of St Bene Dicked - orare, laborare, dormire, copulare.

Its about balance, whatever suits you.

I find that I go through different phases where I go out socially very regularly but then can find I'm working a lot and don't or just don't feel like it as much. At least for me sex whether its pulling or punting can be the same, sometimes I want it all the time and sometimes I'm much less bothered (must be a sign of advancing age  )

Most of my mates are married with kids. I am the token happy divorced guy.

So I am the cover story for whatever no good they are up to. I tend to get texts at 3 am saying if the missus asks I crashed at yours.

Hi Salt, I'm in a similar position to you but I've come from a different direction.  Whereas you sacrificed your friends and social life for the solitary joys of punting, I've got into this maelstrom because I found myself alone due to a very long term relationship being put out of its misery, the inevitable wear and tear of old friendships and the lack of ability or interest in forming new ones.  Even though I do think that  my punting adventure started out as a substitute for a proper life, it does seem to provide something special that I never previously had in the real world outside and now I don't think I'd ever want to give up.

Well, I reckon I've got the best of all worlds.

Being retired, I'm time-rich but less cash-rich than I used to be.
Being retired with no kids to ask for "loans" from the Bank of Mum & Dad, I'm more cash-rich than I might otherwise be.
Being retired and living on my own, I have the freedom to punt sensibly within the punting budget I set myself each month.

The time I don't spend on punting I can spend with my mates.  Or not, if I don't want to.  I guess I'm in the same group as smiths and dilletante above.

Trawling through AW on a nightly basis can have the effect of turning one into a bit of a recluse!
I'm going to be in real trouble now that the football season is winding up  :D

Got the world cup coming up ! Though I am thinking of trying a world cup challenge and punting with a bird from each of the qualifying nations.

That might be stretching it a bit. so I think I might try and punt with a bird from those that get out of the group stages

I've organised stags and been on many more.  That's usually the beginning of the end.  My mates are already planning for mine as it's the only chance most of them get for some debauchery.  Needless to say, they will be waiting in vain.  There's a lot to be said for the single life.

Punting then attend to your mates

By then you should be stress free and chilled out and more chances to pull

Foreign trips with the lads - a great opportunity to combine the two
And great fun in the morning with a quasi kangaroo court over breakfast [everyone is guilty - less or more] & comparing notes too

Christ, how much are you punting if you can't make time or money to see friends?

Lets say an average 1 hour punt is £120, once you've factored in food, drink and taxi home I won't be far off that on a night out in Cardiff. So if it was me I would just punt 1 less time a month.

Gotta find that balance, spend less time satisfying the little brain and spend some time with friends for the big brain.

I know where you're coming from with this and I have in the past shunned going out with my friends as I've needed the money towards my next punt, however I've come to realise this isn't a healthy way in which to live life.

We all need friends - and not just to go out with on the lash and try to get laid.  Don't forget about your mates or you will lose them.  You don't have to have expensive nights out with them necessarily but do make time for them.  Otherwise one day when you're old and poor, living off a pension, with a choice between punting or putting the heating on in the middle of winter, do you think the prossies are going to help you out by offering you a discount.  All the thousands of pounds you spent on them in your younger, richer years don't matter to them now as you're broke.  And where are you friends when you need them?  That's right, you ditched them years ago!

Curious6705

I put friends and family, first, but when I have done so it's been because of time, not money.

I've not always been so lucky - as it happened I could not have started punting much before I did, because I didn't have the spare money to do so. Having money to spare was probably one of the reasons I started punting.

Offline Siadwel

I'm in the Hermit camp, too.

By the time I moved to where I am now, I'd made all the friends I wanted to, and they're all back in Wales. I don't make friends easily. Separated from the family, happily so, no acrimony, we haven't even got divorced. The initial five years after splitting up was very tight for me, financially, no money left over for doing anything. The few times during that time that I went for a punt usually ended up biting me in the arse. For example, I did a girl and two days later the exhaust fell off my car, so I got into the headspace that if I was good to myself, bad things happen.

All that's over now, though, I've moved into a council flat, slashed my living expenses by almost £400 a month, so I've started ticking off my Bucket List, which ISN'T exclusively made up of various WG's. I did a lot of punting last year, by my standards, and now I'm thinking there's other things I want in life as well, before I retire in three years time. Probably a result of not being too selective in my punts. I will only see English girls now, or foreign girls who've been working in this country for years, but they charge too much for very frequent punting, and even then, it's no guarantee.
