I was sorry to read that Michael Apted, the director of the 7-Up series had died.

I remember watching the 7-Up documentary when it first appeared in 1964, and i've stayed with it and watched the follow up documentaries, which have looked at the lives of the participants every seven years.
Whether viewed as an examination of the strata's of class and social scale in English society and their affect on participants lives, or a chance to re-acquaint with individual memorable characters, I've found it a unique and memorable series to watch which has provided food for thought where my own life is concerned.
RIP Michael.

I was hoping the "UP" series would carry on until at least the next time ... they will be 70 .. but the death of Apted may prevent it
A groundbreaking social TV documentary of its time and whilst it has become more of a show about the individuals than any social measurement  ... for those of us of the same age it is compelling viewing
I think Apted kept it going so it might have naturally come to closure which is sad  ... he had an ability to bring out the personality of the characters even if it was only looking at them for a brief moment every 7 years
He actually had a good career directing in numerous films but the "UP" legacy will define him   ...
RIP

The 7 UP series was fascinating to watch, Apted was ahead of his time in that regard.
