I thought I would make a thread where we can share things that will normally increase your punting budget. The obvious is look for a better paying job/second job or do more overtime as well as go for shorter and or cheaper girls but I am looking for other ideas. But like most of us I dont have a limitless budget although it is pretty reasonable, so this is what I did. Now this is a perspective from a single guy.

Be as frugal as you can.  For instance get used to using shopping vouchers as much as possible. As a personal example I used to go into Tescos every couple of days and bought £20-£40 of items normally. So I have now changed and just do one shop a week and because I go over £50 I get £5 off every time.  52x5 = £260 thats a couple of punts. I now take packed lunches into work saves £2+ each day. When you see a halfprice offer on something you buy regularly and its something that will keep ie showergel, washing powder etc buy as much as you can (within reason). Think how you drive, fuel is a big cost and yes I used yo be as guilty as the rest about driving way too fast, nowadays I drive like Mr Magoo but again thats a couple of punts worth of money a year I save by not driving like a cunt.

Check your bank statements particularly for direct debits, I did and saved myself £50 every month on things that I no longer used (insurance for items I no longer had, old DD's that should have been cancelled a long time ago).  Check to see if you can get your bills cheaper, yes its a hassle but think of it as punting money.

Use the internet to make things cheaper External Link/Members Only is often a good place to find some exceptional deals, External Link/Members Only a great place for saving money, another site I use which gives you money back on stuff you buy on the internet is External Link/Members Only what this site does is it gives you the referral money that it gets paid by the website back to you. There was a famous instance of a women getting a years comprehensive car insurance for less than a pound in part due to the cashback from the site.

If you have money invested then make sure your getting the best deal. I would recommend External Link/Members Only that will help to teach you a few basic things about investing if your new to it.

Apart from driving more carefully and doing a bit more reading/researching I do everything else I used to do. I go out most weeks, have a takeaway whenever I fancy it and yet still have an increased punting budget. I also appreciate that quite a few of us already do those things :hi: and also that it can seem like extra work but if it saves you money that you can put into other areas of your life that has to be good surely.

Any thoughts?

For us married guys, the trick is to siphon as much cash out of the joint account as you can get away with.

Cashback is your friend.  I regularly "help out" by buying most of our groceries on the way home from work.  They are strangely expensive nowadays.

Just be sure to dispose of the receipts.

Hey all sorry if the post was wrong I was trying to be helpful.

If I offended you abdul. I wasn't suggesting that you weren't a millionaire and can punt several times every day should you so wish. I was just trying to think of ways that I could increase my punting budget because I am not a millionaire and thought it might help others. I have seen people asking how to make money to fund their punting habit so I hoped it would help someone. But thanks for the feedback.

Offline Gluckman

Why wouldn't you do all of those things even if you weren't a punter?

I'm currently growing a money tree in my garden. I've laced the fucking thing with miracle grow so I'm hoping it will start yielding tenners soon. I successfully grew one a few years ago after buying some magic beans on eBay. Turns out it was an African tree though that produced Zimbabwe $. After three years it had produced 3trillion dollars - roughly £2.74! What a cunt. Not even enough for a wank off an EE gal

I personally dont think you should cut back on anything in order to afford a punt. But if thats what you want to do, i suggest to invest in stocks, get a better job and save save save. If the ability to afford punts is going to motivate you to make more money go for it.

Some good tips, thanks Gigabyte - I am definitely looking for ways to increase my punting budget.  Some of your suggestions I already follow (e.g. cashback websites).  I'm not prepared to skimp on things I enjoy in order to get more punts in each month (for example there's no way I'd eat a packed lunch every day - punting isn't that important to me!).

If I'm desperate for a punt and I can't afford it I'll sell stuff I no longer use on eBay.  No point having a load of old shit cluttering up your house if you don't need it and it's amazing what other people are prepared to pay money for!

Some good information here and some punters might find it useful. I wouldnt advise scrimping to fund punts though myself. Either punt cheaper or save for one longer rather than trying to save every penny would be my advice.

If you don't mind trying out new drugs, the kind prescribed on the nhs, you could try clinical trials

In my early 20's I did these once every 4 months, and sometimes they paid real good money

One of the trials I took part in was conducted over 21 days, and you would attend as in patient for 4 days, and the other days as out patient

the first 2 days you were given the drugs, and for the next 18 days you return so they can take blood and urine samples, the last 2 days were used to monitor vital signs

Payment for the 21 days was £2500, plus traveling expense of at least £50 per day

Now there will be hundreds of Mumsnet users checking their joint bank accounts for unusually large debits at Asda!

I've yet to make decent money from gambling, the best I do is double up usually.

I think £50 is the maximum withdrawal for cashback.

BTW most of the has-beens from mumsnet are on moneysavingexpert, it's just women talking about saving 10p off nappy sacks. The articles are good, the forum is more boring than saafe.

I remember at uni they use to pay for experimenting on you - There was one where they done something which made you heart hesitate and this paid over a grand which was a lot at the time - but it went down on your medical history as a heart attack. What about selling a kidney? - they go for a lot abroad (illegal in uk).

Some good ideas and a relevant post IMO Gigabyte, can't understand the first few comments back being so negative. A lot of your points are things we should all do anyway rather than waste money paying and being ripped off. Doesn't matter what you spend the money on really.

As for the poster who suggested that fucking civvy girls is free, you are having a laugh, right ? You might not be handing over a hundred quid to shag them but they cost more in readies, hassle and wasted time in the long run. And if I got my fill with the wife I wouldn't be punting so much.

As others have said, saving money is one thing, getting that in hard currency to maintain a punting reserve is something else in my case.

...Per transaction,  perhaps.  "Little and often" is the way to do it.  I pop into the supermarket several times a week, getting a bit more each time.  Over a month,  it adds up.

Drug trials are usually safe but there is a reason they do them in small numbers of people 1st & why they pay all that money- anyone remember the "Elephant man " trials in 2006?

Drug trials are usually safe but there is a reason they do them in small numbers of people 1st & why they pay all that money- anyone remember the "Elephant man " trials in 2006?

I remember that or a similar trial, where a number of test subject had adverse reaction to the drugs, some of them life harming

I first started doing clinical trials in 1990, and done various trials for 5 years; anyone in Scotland or Edinburgh might know of this clinic, Inveresk Research, located at Heriot Watt University

And it shows not everyone is willing to go through with the test, once they read the info on the previous trials, they get cold feet, as anything that went wrong is listed; like 1 death occurred during this trial, on examination it was found the patient hadn't been truthful with the clinic, and had a medical condition which he didn't declare, which was partly to blame for his death

So at all times, you must  tell the clinic if you have taken something like aspirin, or even an joint, you must make them aware, as there could be a reaction; if you have taken a joint this wont be held against you, and the police wont be contacted, but your likely to be removed from future trials

I even met my brother in-law one day, and he couldn't go through, after reading  the study notes, even though it would have paid him £1200, one year later after I have done a few trials, he got in contact with me, as he wasn't working, and wanted to know more about the trials, as he was reconsidering, after telling him about the drugs I was testing, he contacted the clinic, and this time went ahead with the clinical trial

Betting on the football can work for some, I started with 50£ and quite quickly made 1100. If the bookies are offering 8-1 on a team, you can assume that they aren't going to win,  hence just back the other team. Even with modest results you can subsidise your punts. Tonight I have real Madrid to qualify. With the internet its quite easy, though I quite fancy the chav birds who work in the bookies.

IF you're a modern lad, then you can save yourself a fortune towards the hobby.

Fancy gym membership?  Use the leisure centre or do home workouts.
Protein powder and supplements?  Get a tray of eggs, roast a chicken, buy tin sardines, use coffee and green tea.
Slamming shots on nights out?  Buy pints.
Dressing like you're in a boy band?  Fashion fades, style remains.
Hair cut in salon?  Go the the barber.
Fake tanning and/or waxing?  Don't do it.

You're welcome.
