A player who forever will be remembered as part of England's World Cup winning team of 1966.
One of the iconic images of that glorious day was watching him hold the cup aloft, a big toothless smile plastered across his face!
I read his biography a few years ago, "After the Ball". The title, I felt, had a double meaning, the first obviously related to his terrier like determination where a football was concerned, but I think a second meaning could be inferred, related to the disappointments and low times he suffered once the glory days of his football career were behind him.
He'd had dementia for some years, so perhaps a mercy in some ways, but still sad.
RIP Nobby.
