It makes logical sense that anything that desludges the arteries should help ED but do any of you punters have personal experience of this being so?

It hasn't helped in my case - been on Statins since retiring more than a year ago and still have the same issues getting fully hard.

What have you found with the ones you take?  In my case the only difference statins make to me is I can't drink grapefruit juice, the only thing that helps with ED is sildenafil.

Likewise with the two posts above. Been on them over a year. Has to be the blue pill 100mg. Although do get the morning glory! With a leak of cum on my knob end. But that's probabely due to lack of use, not the statins.

It's too early to say. I don't have a major ED problem, but do use Cialis recreationally as it helps me last longer.

How long have you been taking Statins.

Offline sadolddeejay

I've only been on them for a week.

6 years for me and no difference to erections, but there again I'm on a load of others as well, including blood thinners so they might counteract any effect the Statins might have.

The improvement ‘indicated’ is small. Like a vast number of statin studies, it tries to show good things and so sings the popular hymn of a multimillion dollar industry. Statins have benefits but are also harmful. On balance, they are now only indicated for people who have had a cardiovascular event, not as routine ‘protection’ after a certain age. If you search PubMed there’s also metastudies indicating statins reduce testosterone and cause ED. (In other words, you can find a study to prove almost anything).

If you have to be on them, blood tests should be every six months. If the cholesterol is down to good levels, ask your doctor if you need to be on such a high dose. But the chances are they may well not affect ED one way or the other.

I think I'll go off the advice of the consultant cardiologist who treated me and knows my full medical history, rather than that of some bloke on a punting forum, and have blood tests every 12 months if it's all the same to you.    :hi:

I probably shouildn't have 'should'. If you have a consultant cardiologist of course go for his advice. Treat any post as an opinion, even with that discaimer. I do try to back mine up quite often but didn't on this occasion – the subject is just too large for a forum.

My consultant also suggested I take Dabigatran instead of Warfarin to eliminate the need for weekly blood tests, which I do, all check are once a year, including pacemaker.

Been on them for about 5 years and I haven’t noticed any difference

Unless you are on very high doses of statin getting your LDL-cholesterol to less than 1.4mmol/L, you are unlikely to see any improvement. What you do get is a reduction in the rate of things getting worse...

What do you call a high dose?

First thing to note is that stains will not “desludge” anyone’s arteries.  They may ever so slightly reduce the size of some of the built up arterial plaque by reducing the lipid content of said plaque, but other than that there’s no way to really effectively reverse atherosclerosis.  Statins are there to reduce LDL in order to prevent things from getting worse.

As far as ED goes, what Marm said is spot on.

There’s been a number of studies and reports of to indicate possible benefits, and likewise a detrimental effect by way of lowering testosterone.  For the most part the consensus is that there’s no real hard clinical evidence to say statins help either help or cause ED.  I asked my cardio consultant this very question last month at my review and he confirmed the very same.

I was on 80mg Atorvastatin between 2012 and 2018 and re. libido and erections, I personally felt no difference between when I was on them and when I wasn’t.  I’ve recently been put back on statins, this time at 10mg Rosuvastatin, and after four weeks of being on them I’m not feeling or noticing any change or difference.

Below is a chart comparing different statins and their equivalent doses (more or less).

Very appropriate phraseology  ;) :D

Good post ... as was Marmalade's.

A high dose is usually Atorvastatin 80mg or Rosuvastatin 40mg, or a statin in addition to ezetimibe, evolocumab or alirocumab.
