External Link/Members OnlyThe Thai government has been very cautious about re-opening even though no-one has been allowed into the country and they have only had around 3000 infections and 58 deaths. They haven't had any recent local infections for more than 40 days, the only infections have been Thais returning from abroad. Yesterday, despite some local opposition, the government renewed its emergency powers for another month so I don't expect travel restrictions to be eased any time soon.
I have read some suggestions that Thailand might allow one resort to open that has its own airport and test their procedures for admitting tourists and monitoring what's going on but I suspect that this idea is not coming from the Thai government but is being floated by one of the tourists resorts.
I am in touch with several girls in Bangkok who have gone back to work in Soi Cowboy. They tell me there are very few customers and many girls. The one thing that strikes me in my chats is that all the girls are really scared of the virus.
So lots of girls available, no flights and no prospect of tourism in the near future. What a pisser!
