Author Topic: Madness with prosecution of postal workers  (Read 1597 times)

I listened to a radio feature on the post office fiasco a couple of years ago. From what I remember, this woman forced a computer program (Horizon?) onto the post office despite it not being fit for purpose. Prosecutions for theft were taken out on behalf of the post office against their own staff because the end of day totals didn’t tally. No thought was given that the computer system could have been wrong.

Post office staff ended up being wrongly jailed, wrongly getting a criminal record, losing their jobs, losing their businesses, and some of them even tragically couldn’t cope and took their own lives. All because of the decisions by this stupid woman who really should be in the dock.

Yes, there was a recent Panorama dedicated to this very issue.

People's lives were ruined after being falsely accused of stealing Post Office money. Under her direction the Post Office fought them in Court even though they knew their IT system was shit and liable to falsely point the finger at Subpostmasters.

Absolutely appalling. The next big scandal will be the enormous black hole in the Post Office pension fund, which is brewing away nicely in the background.

There was an excellent expose by a journalist who works for my local BBC radio station.

Quite frankly it was a fucking disgrace that these people were subjected to this. However I'm not surprised as I've got a family members and friends who work for the same organisation and although not the same position they've been treated like cunts.

Indeed, this was a disgrace in my view, instead of thinking logically the PO management decided all these people were crooks. Those responsible should get done and hopefully put in prison.

Her wiki page makes interesting reading: External Link/Members Only

Amazed she was awarded a CBE with her history. But at least there’s an incompetent Government willing to overlook such trivialities that her Gov webpage airbrushes what she most infamous for: External Link/Members Only

This cold hearted cunt reminds me of another, Sharon Shoesmith who was senior at Haringay council in connection to the tragic Baby P case, as soon as i saw her speak she came across as one uncaring bitch.

The problem was Ed Balls sacked her he said at the time on legal advice, i have never seen that proved and in the end she got i think it was £600k payout. So apart from the poor child dying Haringay were a huge amount of money down, i bet she got the champagne out the day she got the compo. Balls could of played it far smarter and got her in the end for no payout, but wanted to show he was doing something.

you could understand it if it were one or two post offices that the finances didnt add up...when its so many you would think is there something else going on. obviously not.

How CAN she live with herself, has she no conscience? Somebody high-up in the organisation has to suffer for this!

Private Eye have been covering this scandal for years - there was a six page article in Issue 1519 dedicated to it.

That is it entirely. I feel off the charts bad if I am going to need to cancel a booking with a WG. Or leaving them a (justified) negative review.

This woman ruined the lives totally and utterly of 1100 innocent postmasters. And postmaster are usually the nicest people you will ever meet. And she doesn't care one little bit.

When I hear of cases like this I honestly remember the test scene in Enter the Dragon where John Saxon's character needs to decapitate a cat on a guillotine to prove he can be totally ruthless to enter the organisation. And he has to out himself as he cannot do it.

You then get scumbags like this that would do it, not even for a test.

Unfortunately the further up the greasy pole you get the more nasty, cold and ruthless you'll find people.  :(

I've seen this in senior management at organisations I've worked at, and even those are quite pleasant compared to CEO's at global corporations and the vast majority of professional politicians, particularly at cabinet level.

These people do not give a fuck about anyone else but themselves and have no real conscience or morals beyond a superficial level required to manipulate others to their own ends.

John Ronson's "The Psychopath Test" gives many examples of this phenomenon. :hi:

And it has worked for Balls amazingly, from a totally humourless arsehole in public to a jack the lad off the back of Strictly. One thing I will say is he was advised really well about Strictly, he has been milking it ever since.

Same with Michael Portillo. He was one of the most hated politicians and was voted out - twice. Then he went on all the talk shows and everyone loves him.

Absolutely, I intensely disliked Portillo when he was an MP and Minister. And we laughed and laughed on that amazing night in May 1997 when he lost his seat, the total crumbling of 18 years of Tory rule.

I wouldn't of believed Balls would be any kind of celeb when he lost his seat, on Would I Lie To You he did a duet with an old colleague of his that they had done at a Labour Party conference one year. yeah he was tone deaf.

You are so right, in my last job I watched as the only people that got promoted were either the 'tick box' jobsworths or the really nasty ones that would stab you in the back while shaking your hand.  An old colleague in my first job summed it up quite nicely, "The people whose toes you trample over on the way up will be those that kick you hard on the way down."

When he said it I was 20 at the time and didn't fully understand what he meant, I'm nearing 60 now and have 'seen it, done and bought the t-shirt' and now know what he meant by it.

Quite a few things have gone on behind the scenes in the PO, mostly quietly skimmed over.

It's such a shame that he has to present what is otherwise an interesting and educational series on rail journeys (oh for Michael Palin).

.... on the other hand he does provide the answer to 'what twat would wear that?' when you see a ridiculously gaudy jacket, pair of trousers, shirt, etc in a men's clothes shop.  How some on that programme manage to keep a straight face is beyond me.  :D

I suppose if you like trains or watching him cavort on a sofa with Diane Abbott :vomit:

I do remember one piece of gossip on him (not the gay stuff at uni), that he's into big chebs and would even tell this to any woman with big chebs eg. at Tory soirees.
