Author Topic: What's the best Bond pre-title sequence?  (Read 859 times)

Seeing as we've got a few Bond threads on the boil I thought I'd start another.  ;)
A simple question to answer: what's the best pre- title sequence in a Bond film?

I still think this takes some beating. External Link/Members Only

I personally hated, hated, hated the opening title sequence of Goldeneye.

My reason why, I grew up, and absolutely loved Timothy Daltons hard as nails, no fancy-schmancy, no-nonsense bond films. And when I seen Goldeneye at the cinema at age 14. And I first seen the base jumping. I thought that's not James Bond.

And then when he jumped off the cliff and climbed into the plane in the air and flew away I honestly remember saying out loud in the cinema itself. "Oh come on".

My favourite opening scene has to be a View To a Kill. When bond "invents" ski-boarding (I know he didn't but the man who did doubled for him).

I have to say, cool though that is, if you let that clip play out, the one following it of a young girl doing a bungee jump just for the sheer thrill of it, is more entertaining IMO. Just look at the goosepimples on her forearms

Shit, can't find it now to link to it  :(

Spy Who Loved Me,

Bond skis off a cliff to a parachute jump, performed by Rick Sylvester, nearly ended badly, if you watch in slow motion one of the released skis narrowly misses the chute , if it had hit it would have torn or tangled.

It was a replication of a stunt he had already performed for National Geographic

The twisting back flip on skis earlier in the sequence was performed by Ed Lincoln

When that film was first out, I went to a late night showing of it. Obviously loads of peeps had spent the preceding hours in the pub and were feeling uninhibited. When the Union Flag shute opened, the whole cinema erupted in a massive cheer.

I can only apologise, but every time there's mention of Stuntmen I can't resist linking to one of the very best: External Link/Members Only

I don't recall this character, for some reason. Great stuff. They wouldn't show it these days, for obvious reasons.

Never watched The Fast Show but that is actually quite funny.

I'm sure years ago I saw or read something about Lou Ferrigno, (who is actually partially deaf) during the filming of the TV series The Incredible Hulk, accidently threw someone across the set because he didn't hear the Director correctly.  If anyone finds a link to this story, please share.   :hi:
