I’m currently playing the Guardians Game as I got it cheap and I’ve got VTM Swansong too. I’m eagerly awaiting “The Quarry” in less than 3 x weeks! 

I did enjoy the Guardians game, the story was a good enough carry through. I think I changed the difficulty to easy/story mode towards the end as the grunt fights became dull and repetitive.

I particularly liked the banter between the characters which didn’t get tiring, and I don’t think repeated once, or it was well hidden if it did.

I just picked up Fenix : Immortals Rising for £10 from Amazon. It’s pretty good (if you wanted to play Zelda on an Xbox or PlayStation.

I read a few people say they are playing that game but the reviews look very average so I decided not to pick it up. Is it good then? I checked the wikipedia page and there was a review that said it was too similar to Zelda, I get the originality point but if it's a clone of a good thing I might check it out.

Looking forward to getting stuck into more Bloodborne this evening!

Played through all of that. I thought it was a masterclass in story telling. Great characters. I will play through it again. I rarely replay games but think God of War is worth another go.

I think what a lot of people forget is really up until the PS2 era was that 5th gen? Most people still played old stuff, I know a guy who still had a Spectrum set up in 2000.

You’re absolutely correct, I have to set up a monitor to play that, but still Lotus Elite Challenge and Kick off is worth it

I finished Bloodborne this evening including the chalice dungeon challenge to kill the Pthumerian Queen. This is my first Souls game and I liked it but the chalice dungeons got really samey and I was really glad when that bit was over. The bosses seemed impossible the first time I faced each one but I managed to beat most within 5 tries so was reasonable I thought. There were a couple which took me about 20 tries. I never had to grind experience to level up. I started playing the DLC and plan to finish that as well.

I think I will try playing over Souls games. Dark Souls II is just a few quid in the PSN sale but I heard it's good but not the best so might wait for Demon Souls or Dark Souls 1 & 3 to go on sale and try one of those first before I decide to delve deeper into these types of games. Elden Ring is on my list but I normally wait for games to be out a while so I get them much cheaper as there are always other things to play. I usually only play full price if there is a multiplayer game my friends are playing.

I picked up Hotline Miami in the sale for just a quid. Played about 20 minutes and I think I like it. It's violent and has a cheesy 80s cocaine theme to it.

I ended up buying Dark Souls 2 in the sale in the end. I really enjoyed Bloodborne but was apprehensive as thought starting up another Souls type game as it would probably take me 3 months to get through.

I've been playing it for a week now and I like it. I really missed my big Hunters Axe from Bloodborne and early on the only weapon I was able to use was a crappy sword which felt I was just hitting enemies with a stick. By the end of Bloodborne my Axe did wicked damage so it was a noticeable downgrade. My character is levelled up now and I feel more competitive against the enemies. I'm really enjoying it now. I've had a good couple of hour long sessions playing it this weekend whilst streaming sets from Glastonbury so it's been a good weekend (albeit anti-social and geeky).

Annoyingly the game makes you play online even though it's a single player game mainly. You can see shadows of other players. The annoying thing is that the game will disconnect from the server and a big pop up will appear saying you will are now playing online. This box can appear right in the middle of battle and in this game that is enough to get you killed. I can't seem to find a way of playing offline automatically unless I switch off the internet at the router or the PS4 which isn't practical.

I also bought Hollow Knight. I already owned it but realised I had bought the North American region version as I bought it whilst I was in the States. I played through the trophies and completed the game. The European version was only a couple of quid so I bought it so I could play it and hunt down the trophies a second time. I adored Hollow Knight it is definitely in my top 10 games of all time. I will start playing it once I finished Dark Souls 2 as I feel both games are bigguns I don't want to spread myself too thin.

Modern gaming has its fantastic things but also it can be frustrating.

Been playing through Hotline Miami over the past week and got the platinum today. I had a lot of fun with it and think it is one of the best games I've played for a while. I bought it a couple of years ago but found it too hard so gave up on it. Decided to give it another go and got a bit obsessed with finishing it. I found it very rewarding to get good at it as you die loads at first but once you get good you can clear out entire floors like you are Jason Bourne. I will buy the sequel at some point but clearing my backlog.

I decided I am going to complete all the Souls games. I'm in no rush and don't want to play them all at once as I like to mix things up but will try to get through them in the next few years. I put off playing Souls games as I heard they were tough but played Bloodborne after hearing how good it was from numerous people and I did not regret it. I then picked up Dark Souls 2 as it was £2 in a sale, it felt less glossy at first but I eventually got quite lost in it. I wasn't even following the story I just enjoyed slowly fighting through each area. I bought Dark Souls 3 so will play that at some point. I am playing in a random order! I really like the look of Sekiro.

Another interesting game I played recently was Valkyria Chronicles Remastered. Always wanted to play the original on PS3 but never got around to it but got the Remastered version on PS4. I liked the animation and the story was good, it felt like the battles you took part with really impacted the story that was happening even though it was fixed. It is a turn based strategy but it was quite easy the enemy strategy never changed so you could play each assignment once and lose but then cater for what the enemy does as you know in advance. Towards the end of the game your scouts become so overpowered that you pretty much bum rush every objective towards the end. It had some flaws but overall I had fun with it.

It is one of the highest rated PS4 games on metacritic but I put off playing it as I hate horror games (even though I love horror movies). Took delivery of my Steam Deck a week or so ago and have so far downloaded Hotline Miami, Detroit: Become Human and Farthest Frontier. Not played a single minute yet but its made me feel all fuzzy inside regardless

The Last of us and its sequel The last of us part 2 are also excellent games. It almost plays out like a cinema film with it's story line plot. I believe it has now been turned into a TV series.

They are excellent games. Finished both of them and both took over my life while I played them as any good game should. I’m very much looking forward to the tv show which was written by the person who wrote the games so it should be good. Stars Pedro Pascal from the mandalorian as Joel. Trailer looks awesome.

Ok, let’s analyse.

No disrespect at all, but ‘best games of all time’ needs a coherent discussion.

GTA5 - never played it so it would be unfair to agree or disagree. I did play 4, and I enjoyed that a lot, very good enjoyable game. 4 tho was an iteration on 3, and I feel (never played) 5 is an iteration on 4,so basically ‘more of the same’. It’s this that makes me feel, that alltho it’s a great game (the online still earns mental amounts of money) it shouldn’t be included in a best of all time list.

Super Mario Brothers - now this I have played, a shit load, specificly number two. My opinion is that it is not the best game of all time. However I think the Mario series in general should be up there, highlights for me Super Mario World (SNES) and Mario 64 (N64). So I am generally in agreement with Mario in general making the list.

Sonic the hedgehog - you know what that first game really did break the mould, it was fast while Mario was slow. There was attitude that summed up the early 90’s. What really happened since then, Mario transitioned well to 3D, Sonic struggled. As a character he is super popular and iconic. As far as the games are concerned (yes I played the indie 2D one), poor old Sonic is maybe better suited to the 90’s

Street fighter 2 - Now, I genuinely hate fighting games, but have to agree that this game changed everything. I paid £100 for an import SNES cartridge back in the day and all I did was button mash, and man crush with Ken. It’s the legacy that it created, that makes it still relevant today, EVO anyone ?
I don’t like it, but cannot disagree with it being on the list.

Mortal Kombat - never played it, nor do I like fighting games. What I do accept is that MK is a popular fighting game series (is it up to 11?). I just feel without SF2 it wouldn’t have existed. Sorry, I just don’t have a coherent reasoning for this, it’s good, it’s popular but is it really ‘all time’ ?

Call of duty 3 - yes I know I could google, but I cba, I believe ‘3’ was ‘modern warfare’ by Infinity ward, if so, then I agree. XP in a shooter, unlock attachments, prestige!!!. All things we take for granted nowadays. Modern Warfare absolutely broke the mould and if that is the game you meant (I so last track of the numbers) then you are on point and ‘Charlie Wilco’ totally right.

So there you go easy for me to pick holes in someone else’s choices, so it’s only right I should suggest some of my own. That way I can leave myself open to fair and reasoned arguments.

So I won’t include games that were better because of the lineage, what I mean is Final fantasy 6 (or 7 or 13) are great games, but judged on their own with the FF heritage probably don’t make it. Likewise Forza, Fifa, John Madden, Diablo etc etc. What I’m trying to say is I will try to judge a game on its own merit rather than it’s position in its franchise.

Neir Automata - This game does some incredible 4th wall breaking stuff. It has tight game play, and a smart intelligent storyline, that one thinks they ‘get’ and can follow (Androids v Robots, both are feeling humanity type feelings) and decides to slowly, insidiously actually have a smarter story under the hood (really don’t want to spoil) for this that are intelligent and watch for the hidden directions.

Resident Evil - let’s face it ‘4’ was a better game, but the first one was unique and genuinely terrifying. The fixed camera, the sluggish character, the lack of bullets and health herbs all added to an exciting adventure.

Kick off - Yes this does show my age a little bit. Up to this point football games were about ‘graphics’ Dino Dini decided to concentrate on gameplay. Does it still hold up today ?, probably not, however what it did for football games left a legacy.

Pokemon - I bought them both blue, and red, I wanted to catch them all. It’s easy to laugh now at the behemoth it has become (makes more money than all the other Nintendo franchises put together), but that original game had some solid gameplay. It also had fantastic progression as you worked your way through the gym boss’s

Portal - So the gameplay element was very easily demonstrated, very clever, and made one feel like a genius when a level was complete. However the true star was GlaDos, one of the most intriguing and interesting antagonists I have pit my wits against.

Right now I’m playing NBA 2k and Days Gone. Days Gone had a bad start when it came out because glitches etc but it’s been fixed and it’s a great game to play right now.

I have played them both. I must say I found TLoU1 quite good but felt I didn't like it as much as everyone else did. I then went into TLoU2 with low expectations and it blew me away. I thought it was brilliant and a masterclass in storytelling. I really cared for the characters (both Elle and Abby). There were some epic scenes throughout. I probably won't watch the TV show as I don't watch much TV now...spend the time gaming instead!

I played Hotline Miami recently and thought it was excellent so enjoy it. I tried playing it years ago but it was too hard so I put it down. I tried again a month ago and concentrated on getting good at it and couldn't put it down. I have completed it and got the platinum trophy but I still go back and play through some of my favourite levels now. I am waiting for the sequel to go on sale so I can buy it. It's not supposed to be as good but I enjoyed the first one a lot so I expect I will still enjoy it.

I played Detroit a few years ago and thought it was okay. It is very polished I can see why so many people like it. I have played too many of those types of games (Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain) that I feel the novelty has worn off. I don't like how the game makes you press a control just to turn a door nob and the game refuses to proceed until you do.

I got a couple more hours in on Resident Evil 2 today. I am still finding it excellent. It is a very well made game. Similar vibes to TLoU but takes itself far less seriously as some of the scenes are very OTT. There is a female FBI agent wearing a tight dress and shooting zombies in the sewers it's just a bit nuts. I am going to try and finish my first playthrough tomorrow before the weekend ends. Then I will play through as the other character.

Tales of Arise in the Xbox. I’ve never completed a Tales game before, usually the combat eventually bores me, I think I’ve tried two previous incarnations. They have definitely done something with the combat, it’s tighter and more accessible. I think I will finish this one around 35 hours in and still loving it. The story is good, not great, but knowing these games there will be some sort of final third revelation.

Forza Horizon 5 on the Xbox - I now have every car completed all the challenges and yet still I log in for the weekly playlist. Finally learnt how to play a driving game using manual instead of auto. It actually only took around 30 mins of effort, it’s completely changed driving games for me.

I recently picked up a steering wheel and pedals to play Forza Horizon 5, and it was awful. That particular Forza game I could not enjoy with a wheel

However this, and the ability to play manual gearbox, made me pick up F122, Asetto Corsa Competionze (ACC) and project cars 2, which I am playing through ACC is very sim racer, and is buggy and clunky, but still my favourite of the three. F1 22 very polished, poor online racing at my skill level with all the idiots trying to gain 8 places at the first bend. Project cars 2 I haven’t even tried the online racing, it’s like a seven ish year old game, so only playing career mode and it’s a good driving game. All these three games work well with the steering wheel.

I recently picked up Rare Replay, purely for goldeneye when it comes. Goldeneye is going to be £15, but it will be patched into Rare Replay for free, and Rare replay is about £4.

On the switch I mostly play Sudoku, but recently picked up Final Fantasy Maxima. Started playing on the toilet and so far it’s a pretty standard Pokemon game made in the FF universe. The protagonists are absolute dickheads and launch into what feels like 2 hour conversations about what a ‘potion’ is in the most annoying’teen’ speak that has been panned by a 40yr old. The crime to my ears is unskippable and is destroying my enjoyment.

Played the CoD beta last week, and when I turned off cross play (to get rid of pc players who cheat) had a good time. Actually being top scorer on multiple occasions (not bad for a near 60 yr old gamer). I won’t get it tho as I tend to get addicted to the levelling up process and start getting up at 4am to grind xp which is less healthy than reading a forum dedicated to using sex workers at 4 am.

I do like gaming, probably an unhealthy amount.

I just checked I bought Tales in a Microsoft store sale on the 11th September, today is 9th October, so a little less than a month. Now I don’t think this game counts time when it’s in ‘quick resume’ because the first few plays I left it in that, but due to crashing I now quit the game. Either way my played time in slightly less than a month is 34 hours, that seems a lot. I will test the quick resume clock time count with a new save later today.

You haven't played gta5, fair enough.. FACTs. It recieved critical acclaim from critics and gamers all over the world and Its the most profitable and fastest selling entertainment product in history beating music icons like micheal Jacksons thriller or movies like Avatar/Titanic and it continues to make so much money.
let me say, I loved gta1 on pc, played it so many times, I then played gta london and 2 and though..eh...same old.
Gta 3.. Amazed me, I loved it.  Then gta vice city was excellent, gta San Andrea's was even better, gta 4 was good....
BUT GTA 5 was on another level...it is way way better then all the other grand theft autos.

Super Mario bros 1 and super Mario world on the Snes is arguably recognised as the best and most famous platform game ever. So Mario all-stars would be the best as it includes both these and the other Mario games.
It was always sonic v Mario...a fantastic era the Sega v Nintendo and these 2 were the ultimate competition, spawned a super successful franchise of toys, Nintendo world theme Park, movies etc.

Fighting games are a preference but street fighter is by far the one that started it. Hence why a classic and will stay in history books however Mortal kombat introduced more, fatalities, babalaties and plenty of gore.. its like a huge upgrade.
These 2 are the best fighting games by far and during my college days, these were the games we would play back to back when there was a large group of us... tekken is 3rd place..

I respect your opinion and I hope you get to play some these mentioned games..

I was pretty obsessive about the franchise up until V, just too free roaming and multi-layered.  I appreciate what Rockstar were trying to do and did but it's not one I go back to.

Finished most of the DLC for the Resident Evil 2 remake which I thought was great. Wasn't able to complete the final part of the DLC which is a wave attack thing where you are holed up in a gas station and have to kill 100 zombies. I haven't completely given up yet and thought I might try it 2 or 3 times a day so I gradually get better and hopefully shouldn't get too frustrated that way. I loved RE2, I bought RE3 at the same time in a bundle and looking forward to playing RE3 but thought I would play something else first to mix it up.

I started playing Dark Souls 3 which I bought a few months ago but put off playing as these games are such a commitment. I put off playing Souls games for years as I heard they were too hard but I finally got into Bloodborne and loved it. I then played Dark Souls 2 which was even better in my opinion and now I'm playing Dark Souls 3 so I'm playing in an order that makes no sense. Dark Souls 3 is brilliant so far. It is hard but I am always making progress through it. I usually can only play a game for about an hour before I get bored but spent a bit over 3 hours last night playing Dark Souls 3 and would happily have played for longer if I hadn't needed to go to bed at a sensible time. I aim to play through all the Souls games, I really like the look of Sekiro.

Just got GTA Trilogy as a gift, have to say the new gameplay and additions do add to the experience and being re-hooked should save me some punting cash from spending hours preoccupied.

I hope they hurry up with GTA 6, how much more can they eek out of GTA V? I first played that on Xbox 360 many many years ago.  And unless it evolved hugely; I found it boring.

Don’t use my PS4 very much apart from watching dvds,even more so now as FM23 is out and for anyone who likes to manage a team to glory and loves stats this is the game

V is not a patch on earlier editions.  Writers invested too heavily in complex stories, interplay between characters etc.  The linear missions of the Trilogy, plus soundtracks which were well suited for the era in which they were released make them more compelling gameplay.

Anyone wanting a little fun regarding the current Eastern political crisis could try the ‘Stalker’ games. They are getting on a bit but ‘Call of Chernobyl’ is a free download with lots of mods available. Set around the Pripyat Chernobyl area it’s big in FPS/explore/adventure. Kill Ukrainian military, Russian military, bandits and mutants. Jump out of your skin, scream in the dark, huge sandbox area and free. Big community still active.
Sorry this is for PC, not sure if ever ported to any consoles.

RE4 was an absolute masterpiece of a game played it to death. The inventory management was a thing of beauty check out this clip if you need something relaxing!

I have been thinking of buying a playstation 5 but they are pretty much impossible to get hold of still. The alternative is the XBox series X console as an alternative.  I understand the X box console will play older  X box games where as the PlayStation 5 does not have the capability of playing PlayStation 4 games. The X box console seems to be about £50 cheaper than the PlayStation 5 console and graphics seem to be everybody as good although playstation seem to have the bigger range of games available.  I tend to play Fifa, Tomb Raider , Resident Evil , Assassins Creed , F1 sort of games all of which I have on PlayStation 4 format but having played through them all Fifa 23 would be the only one I would buy at first  if I was to get an X Box console. I know quite a lot of games are available on both formats and some have their own series of games. Any thoughts of serious gamers on here would be appreciated

I have both, they are both pretty much the same (PS5 is less attractive), with minor things better on one or the other (PS5 controllers are awesome).

However I would recommend Xbox because of Game Pass, it makes all the difference.

The ps5 is very much capable of playing ps4 games. That’s all I have at the moment till I get cod mw2.

  getting a playstation 5 would be the better option then if I still wanted to play PS4 games on it then  just so bloody hard to get hold of one in my neck of the woods. Even harder as we get closer to Christmas

Yeah. Majority of places are selling them as bundles. Amazon have them as just the console. But you have to request an invite to buy one. I did this but took weeks for them to respond. In the mean time I bought a bundle from game for £549 which was £100 more than I really wanted to pay. But it was the only way I could secure one before Xmas. If you go to Amazon now and request an invite you should be lucky enough to get one before Xmas.

The new RE4 looks good. The early RE games got my into gaming. I never played RE4 as it came out whilst I was on a break from video games whilst I was settling into a new life in London. The PS4 port of the original RE4 is only a few quid in the sale at the moment and was going to get it but I'm determined to limit my backlog of games to 5 and I already bought Hotline Miami 2 this week. I might change my mind and buy it though as I've heard good things.

I am now about 10 hours into Dark Souls 3. I think it's excellent. I have played Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne before and couldn't decide which I prefer. Dark Souls 3 takes the best from each I think. The enemies are so tough yet always beatable. I got stuck on one boss for 2 hours (Deacons of the Deep), just couldn't beat them so I went to get some materials to upgrade my weapon then I totally annihilated them which was satisfying. The settings are really atmospheric and every so often I stop and just look around some places in detail. There is very little music in the game which makes it atmospheric. In DS2 and BB I played as a melee strength build as it's easy to know what to level up. On DS3 I thought I'd be adventurous and going for a pyro build. I found a suggested way to level up online so it should work out but I'm worried I am doing my stats wrong and will get stuck. You can reassign your stats a limited number of times though so I could always go back to melee if needed.

I bought Hotline Miami 2 in the sale for just £2. I loved the first game, I heard the second wasn't as good but I liked the first one so much I thought I'd have fun with it. I've only played about an hour. Early impressions are they have really jazzed up the cutscenes and story and gone a bit over the top as I really liked the subtle and almost silent narrative of the original. The actual gameplay seems identical to the first game. The first level felt as hard as the later levels in the first game so I'm a bit worried it's going to become ridiculously hard. My plan is to focus on DS3 and might try and do one level of HM2 in each game session I do hoping that should only take about 20 minutes.
