Author Topic: I dobbed in some kids today.  (Read 8096 times)

I'm not sure whether I feel too good about this, but what's done is done and I'm not gonna beat myself up over it.

With the advent of the Lockdown recently, I dug my old bike out of the shed, gave it a once-over and lube, and have been gettting out for a ride most days (and there seems little chance of any other riding in the near future ).

I live right near the countryside and was barrelling along down a little lane today, when I was forced to slow down a little by the presence of around eight kids (I'd say 15-17yrs old) all over the road. Just walking along in the sunshine, having fun, having a laugh. Not that it matters, but I think it was both boys and girls, around 50:50.

Of course this wouldn't bother me at all normally, it's a quiet country road and I was young once too (albeit a dim and distant memory  :P). But considering we're meant to be in Lockdown, I was quite taken aback. They were clearly not all from the same household, and I should imagine they all told their parents as they left their respective houses: 'just popping out for a bit of exercise mum and dad, see you in an hour or two'. They'd probably all arranged to meet over WhatsApp or whatever.

Anyways, about two miles further on I came across a roundabout and there was a police car with a couple of coppers in it, parked up, obviously keeping an eye out. I continued on my way, straight over, and then after a couple of hundred metres I felt compelled to turn around. I approached the copper in the driver's seat (he had the window down, it was a nice warm, sunny day) and said: 'I'm not the kind of guy to dob people in, but there's a bunch of kids back there all walking down the road together, they obviously don't all live in the same house'. He thanked me, and as I continued on my way I heard him start up and drive off.

I felt like a bit of a cunt, but I think I did the right thing. They'll presumably be had a word with, and just go back home with their tails between their legs. Anyway, WTF?! I should imagine any of them would be totally mortified if their granny got Covid-19 and died. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if at least a few of them go on Save The Planet marches and are big supporters of Greta Thunberg. They probably think anyone over the age of 40 is a stupid old gammon twat who doesn't give a shit about their future. But they don't seem to be clever enough to add two and two together, and make it equal four .

In the current situation, the right thing to do :hi:
However, I'd also feel a bit of a grass, but hey ho......

The other thing to consider of course, is that with all the idiots doing stuff like this, it seems likely to me that we'll now be told no-one can go out AT ALL, even for exercise. Only shopping and essential work allowed, possibly with little permit chits like they have in Italy, and just stay completely at home  :unknown:.

Ultimately they know right from wrong.

And not that it matters, but the area they come from is pretty posh.

One lesson that kids need to learn is that 'social influencers' aren't the be-all and end-all, and although others who should know better sometimes do the wrong thing, it doesn't mean that they should.

Of the three you mention I know only one (Kinnock) but if I saw him doing it I'd dob him in too.

Did the right thing.

At my local park where I walk the dog, there are two tennis courts, basketball court & a five a side football pitch. All the gates were cable tied & signs put up to say they were off limits. Cable ties promptly cut. Next day chains & padlocks added, except for some reason to one gate at the tennis courts.

Whilst walking the dog I noticed some folk, probably in their forties having a nice game of doubles. As I walked by I suggested that they should probably stop as it was signed as being off limits, to which I was told in a plummy middle class Edinburgh accent to essentially fuck off.

Went about my business, saw a few other folk telling them to move along & got similar responses. So I phoned 101, told the call centre what was going on, they thanked me & said they’d send someone round. Sure enough, 15 minutes or so later, plod arrived & discussed the matter with them & sent them on their way with a stern word & hopefully a £60 fine each.

Fair enough ww.

Would I do the same? Not sure.

Will the government get more heavy handed? Hope not and the minority who flout the rules should be targeted.

We urgently need details of the next stage so there is some light at the end of the tunnel to see.

What nags away at me, is that while we are in this lockdown, those with other illnesses may get pushed further and further down the list until??? Who dies first then? How can we justify that question when telling people to stay in for how many months?

Don't we need to accept we cannot stop people getting the virus currently but can only slow the rate of infection down? If so, what happens when reach that point? We need to really level with people to get and get them on side.

Anyway, that just what twisting my mind but as said fair play to you doing what you believe needs to be done

For the record, I would not dial 999, that would clearly have been an overreaction and an unnecessary drain on police resources. These coppers were parked up literally about a mile away from where I saw the kids.

Like I said earlier, although I feel sure they wouldn't thahk me for it, perhaps it'll save one of their grans dying a hideous death in an ITU bed.

Spot on WW, I’d have done the same. Everyone needs to follow the rules for not only their own health, but others around them and for the health of our NHS staff

Dr Catherine Calderwood however is a cunt of the highest order  :hi:

Offline winkywanky

Yes!!

Only became aware of this on the News this evening.

She's the Chief Medical Adviser for the Scottish govt or somesuch?

Flagrantly breaches the rules two weekends running, while simultaneously speaking from the lectern at Scottish public briefings, and telling everyone to stay home. WTF?

Offers her resignation (quite correctly) and then Sturgeon says "no, stay, you're our expert and we need you"

I always had Sturgeon down as a sharp political operator but she has failed dismally here. She's told this woman to stay even though politically she has no credibilty whatsoever after what she did, and anyone in Scotland flouting the rules now could quite rightly say "well if the Chief Medical Adviser travels around in her leisure time, why can't I?"

Is she insane?  :unknown:

Offline winkywanky

And of course no-one is indispensable. If she went there would be others equally qualified, ready to step in.

Although perhaps there isn't another suitably-qualified or senior woman ready to step in, maybe that's what it is?

Either way, a big own goal for Sturgeon personally, and jeopardising Scottish Covid-19 strategy too

I've had my mother bending my ear about Ms . Calderwood all day, she is quite Political with a SNP bias. I'm not really.

I did have to point out she was an advisor rather than a Politician although that has nothing to do with the size of an arse it makes someone for a change.

I think Sturgeon will sack her, just not now. She has already relieved her of press briefings and at this stage probably wants to minimise a reshuffle at her top medical table.

Ah, OK, didn't know that

I suspect it might come to a head though with continued public pressure, and then eventually in time-honoured fashion it'll be "my presence has become too distracting for the Scottish govt's fight against Coronavirus, so it is with a heavy heart I insist on going".

I knew they wouldn't get into bad trouble, I just thought they needed a reality check from someone in a position to be able to make them realise. The most that would happen would be telling their parents (assuming the parents actually cared).

In all of this, the important thing to realise is that people flagrantly breaking the rules like this will mean the govt making everyone stay at home all the time. No exercise, no nothing (apart from shopping and people who can't work from home).

As ever, it's always the few who fuck it up for everyone else.

My issue with all of this is why are law enforcement taking such a light approach to this.

Yes we have heard of the cry babies about heavy handed approach by some forces but FFS we are in the middle of a national emergency softly softly is clearly not working.

Last Friday evening whilst out for a jog I saw 4/5 police officers in a kebab shop whilst people walked around freely some in groups of 3-4 nobody being challenged as in is this your daily exercise if not what are you doing walking the streets on a Friday evening or are the groups part of the same family.

It's because they have to find a happy medium and stay within the limits of the powers they have.

In my area on one end of the scale a woman, who was having parties, has been issued with a (legitimate under current legislation) closure notice that bans her from having visitors for 3 months, she faces 12 months in prison for any breach.

At the other end a woman was arrested for travelling to Newcastle Central Station without good reason, she was fined over £800, then they realised the didn't have the power to do that and squashed the whole thing. Police, CPS and courts all got that wrong.

It was on the news earlier that more stringent measures are a possibility but not in the immediate future.

Yeah for some people it will simply be a good opportunity to settle an old score with a neighbour etc that you don't like, grassing people up willy nilly starts to look like the Stasi but then again people should also do their civic duty.

Given that he happened across a cop car I think it was the right thing to mention it and i'd probably have done the same.

It does appear to be the younger people who don't seem bothered about this as they don't tend to show symptoms or aren't badly affected by it so that childish selfishness comes to the forefront.

As mentioned above they could still pass it on to others and also stop everyone from being able to exercise etc, I know we are all referring to this as a "Lockdown" but technically what we have is social distancing and stricter rules could and i'm sure will be implemented if necessary like some other countries have done, anyone fancy the Chinese rules for a couple of months  :unknown:

Part of the problem here is that the rules are new and different forces have interpreted them differently to begin with, the softly softly nature of many is to try and guide the public as our democracy relies on policing with consent and agreement of the wider population.

I've been exercising along the Prom and while there are people out walking; running and cycling the numbers haven't been that big plus most people to seem to be in 1's or 2's with the exception of obvious family groups.
I've not seen any groups of teenagers however I have noted that almost every time i've exercised there has been a mixture of police cars / coast guard slowly driving along the sea front plus police / community support officers walking in 2's

Not sure which beach it was but I couldn't believe the 2 twats that were having a Barbecue, did they really think that was acceptable
