How the fuck are they going to monitor this?
I have already been out twice.  :scare:

They can't, just Bozza doing his headmaster thing. Now pants down and bend over.

Offline Moby Dick

Try explaining it to my dogs......
They have 2 walks a day....
No Fido, BoJo says No!

If my neighbour grasses me up, then his front lawn will become my dog toilet.

Of course, they can't.

Police numbers have been stripped to the bone but even if they hadn't it still wouldn't be possible.

They're basically relying on people to do the right thing. Most are, some selfish idiots aren't.

As for the one exercise a day thing...well they're trying to keep the streets fairly empty for obvious reasons, but if you lived in a rural area it doesn't have quite the same importance IMO.

People just need to use their loaf within the guidelines. So when you walk/run/cycle don't go near anyone else, don't touch stuff while you're out.

And try not to get knocked off your bike or get carried away and get an injury, because then you take up a badly needed hospital bed as well as possibly being exposed to Covid-19 there.

Yes it's a bit of a nonsense tbh.

It doesn't specify how long, so one person could walk round the block and another could do it 100 times.
I believe that the criterion is up to 5km from home, not sure if that's on foot/bike or if you can drive that far to go for a walk.

There's a lot of reliance on people being sensible and accepting the restrictions for their own good and for the good of the nation.

The selfish idiots who just do as they please will aid the spread of the virus and force the government to introduce harsher restrictions.

Offline cotton

True i guess the government is just trying to get there message across , obviously at this point it is pretty unenforceable including not driving about cos you can just say your going to buy food or drop food off to a relative whos self isolating. The point is the government is making it clear the situation is serious and whats required , most people will likely just dutifully comply , some people wont swallow the governments orders and not comply or not comply to the letter but either way overall it will be have a positive impact in the fight against covid. The heavy handed militia style stuff will only come if too many people dont comply or if theres civil unrest.

Being an unsociable bastard I’ve always tried to avoid people anyway.
Yesterday a couple of women stepped into the road rather than walk past me.
Then again they have often done that!  :D

Where I am, in Bristol, people thank me for keeping away from them. This explains a few things I've wondered about for years

I live in a rural area.
Nearest shop/garage is over 2miles away.
Often go for a walk and see no one (they must see me first).
This thread made me wonder if farm animals and wildlife can pass on the virus?
I ain’t gunna go sheep shagging, didn’t get the wellies before the non essential shops closed,
but makes me wonder.

You have already been out exercising twice at 5 to 8 in the morning? You do know theyve postponed the olympics?

Its a short drive for me to plenty of rural places to walk. Have a look at how your neck of the woods has changed over the past 120 years. You could have a walk on any road then because of the lack of cars on them. Slide the blue button to see Bing Hybrid satellite photo. They even list places where witches were burned? Any near you?  :)

Of course.

And if you want some fresh air while you're doing it, just open the windows .

Depending on how long we get told, that were on lockdown, and this continues into mid May.  Now we have warmer weather, and seeing you can't go to work, I think exercising becomes the norm, and everyone decides let go out, for a walk or cycle

Sun 22 March was a nice day, in scotland, sunny but not to cold, so I got my bike out, and headed to the canal cycle path, but seems every cyclist had the same idea, and for March, never seen the cycle path so busy, sign of things to come.   Arrived at Bowling Harbour, found a place to put my bike down, and then sat down to rest, and then counted, how may cyclist were in the harbour basin, and there was around 50 cyclists

So come May, warm weather, everyone heading out, as a cyclist, i might head to Loch Lomond, 30 mile round trip, but I think other cyclists will have the same idea.  Which then means you have large crowds gathering in one place when we told to keep our distances

What I believe should be in place, you cant be more than 5-8 miles away from you home, if doing any form of exercise

I drove a few miles today to have a walk. When walking, I suddenly realised that there were two wild goats about 10 feet away. A few minutes later, on another path, there were five in front of me. They stayed out of my road, like before. I saw three people in the distance, with nobody else about. The biggest surprise was the village a couple of miles away from where I was walking. It was a ghost town, and I've never seen it so quiet. Most of the shops were shut and there were very few people about. I saw about six people in the space of 15 minutes. The traffic was about 10% of what it usually is for 4.30pm. The closed shops and pharmacy had signs saying two people at a time. The butchers had a sign saying that they were closing at 2pm daily, and that they were taking delivery orders. It felt like the start of this episode....

Do you live on the Falkland Islands by any chance?  :D

Great link by the way. Anyone who's a fan, do get the boxed set. The picture quality is stunning, it was made for showing on both sides of the Atlantic and video standards converters were awful in those days. So Lord Grade made them shoot it on 35mm filmstock at vast expense (albeit in 4:3 aspect ratio) so that there was no loss in quality for either side of the pond. What that means is that it looks brilliant on even a 4K telly today. Even if you zoom in to lose the black bars down the sides, it still looks pretty good. A classic.

Thats interesting about the 35mm film. I never knew that. I've had the boxed set for many years. Its high quality, as you say. Its unique and I dont think that we'll see its like again. I dont think that a remake could be nearly as good.

A remake would be futile. Doomed to failure. Patrick McGoohan rocks. What a shame he sold out to go to Hollywood  :(.

Although he was bloody good in an episode of Columbo .

Another good film to see, where McGoohan was one of the new up and coming British pack, was Hell Drivers. He played the maniacal Irish suicide-driving nutter. Also features Herbert Lom, Sean Connery and Stanley Baker (who I believe funded the film). Recommended.

I often wonder about the process of telecine conversions.
35mm film normally runs @24fps
PAL TV is basically 50 half fields per sec making 25 fps
NTSC is 60 half fields per sec making 29.97 fps
Converting from 35mm to PAL means 1 frame is duplicated per second and with NTSC an additional 6 frames must be found.
Confused?   :unknown:

Offline Squire Haggard

I saw Hell Drivers maybe in the late 70s or 80s. I'll look out for it. I remember the name 'Big Red'. As you say, Patrick Mc Goohan would be impossible to replace. I'll admit to owning a box set of Danger Man, but I dont think that I'll ever watch it as much as The Prisoner.

In those days films were always run at slightly the wrong speed for that very reason.

People with perfect pitch would wince at the soundtrack music being 'off', especially if it was orchestral.

These days digital means that standards conversion is no-loss, and films can be the right length!

I saw this earlier, made me laugh:

Quote
Just saw a very sweet thing when out for my daily exercise. Two young lovers in jogging gear in the park, clearly pretending to be doing their exercise for the day so they could be together for a while even if they could not be intimate. Not ashamed to say I had a slight lump in my throat as I called the police.

Basically this will all rely on snitches and there probably won't be a shortage!

Of course in that case they may be living together anyway, in which case they don't need to stay apart!

I rode past a canoodling couple on my bike yesterday, out in the sticks.

She was sitting on a large cutdown treetrunk by the side of the road, he was standing between her legs kissing her (yes, of course I was jealous ).

I shouted out in a loud voice as I rode past: you're not allowed to do they you know! and they both fell about laughing.

They might not have done of course, but I'd already calculated the bloke would never catch me on my bike  :D.

It's all nonsense unless they force a complete lockdown which is enforced in other European countries.
And the police certainly don't have the man power due to the police cuts over many years to enforce if there is a complete lockdown let alone even now.

I was doing my mandated exercise today and noticed a a group lads congregated in the middle of the rec as I completed a couple of laps of the field.
Next thing I know, a squad car and riot van turn up and turf these lads of the field.  :scare:

No idea of the context, perhaps they were complaints, but it's the first time I've seen it happen since the new measures?  :unknown:

There certainly seemed to be more police cars on the road whilst I was walking to the supermarket and back earlier. Perhaps the secret of not getting stopped is to carry a carrier bag or shopping bag? Although you shouldn't really necessarily be stopped anyway if you are out on your own - but who knows?

I suspect the usual crime wave/stabbing epidemic has abated somewhat over recent weeks, this means that less coppers are stuck in the police station doing paperwork and interviewing the fuckers, and are able to be out on the beat.
