Watched Cleanskin on Netflix. New to Netflix, although made in 2012. Sean Bean as a jaded, disillusioned MI6 agent.  Lots of well known faces in early roles, Tom Burke ( he of the hare lip later to become Cormoran Strike) Charlotte Rampling and the delectable Tuppence Middleton  in one of her early roles, including some delightful topless scenes.  Overall, a watchable film.

I remember watching it at university and really liking it. Watched it on YouTube last night, I half expected to not like it as it's full of cheesy wise cracks but I enjoyed it. Thought it was funny and a good cheesy story. The quips are nearly up there with Commando.

An interesting fact is Peter Jackson based the battle of Helms Deep in Lord of the Rings on the castle siege in Army of Darkness.

Dutton Ranch is pretty good as a spin off of Yellowstone.

Disclosure Day was underwhelming, was expecting more from Spielberg.

Spider Noir on Amazon.

Watched the first episode just now and quite enjoyed it. From what I can gather it's a mash up between the superhero world done in the film Noir 30s style except in colour. Staring Nicholas Cage who is fantastic in everything he's ever been in even if the feature itself is utter shite.

Holding out a little hope for this, fingers crossed.

I enjoyed it and moreso as it was set in the 1900s.

I thought I'd take a look at Anyone but You, to see what all the Sydney Sweeney fuss is about.

I lasted eight minutes.  Annoying piffle.  Also Sweeney's teeth are too white.

But perhaps it wasn't aimed at me.  It grossed $220 million across the world, so someone must have liked it.

Last night I returned to Anyone but You – which I hadn't yet deleted – because I was worried I might have judged it too hastily.  This time I did 40 minutes.

The plot revolves round a group of Americans (friends and family) who go to stay in a luxury seaside villa in Australia for a lesbian wedding.  As one does.

I can’t make up my mind about Sydney Sweeney  There’s something a bit plastic about her.  I’m not sure she’s real.  I think she may be AI-generated.

A note for students of fashion.  In almost every scene, SS is dressed in a low cut (or sometimes almost a “no-cut”) dress, bathing costume or whatever, whereas the other female characters dress normally.  Wonder why.

It’s just as well the film’s set in Australia and not, say, Iceland.  But then SS was one of the film’s executive producers.

While on the subject of the Sweeney, was anything more ridiculous than the confected outrage over her 2025 American Eagle Outfitters advertising campaign with the tag-line, "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans" – on the grounds that it was racist?

Would there have been a backlash if, as might easily have been the case, some good-looking black star – Jude Bellingham, say – had featured in a similar ad?  I think not.

(Donald Trump rode to the rescue with a characteristically subtle and nuanced comment on Truth Social: "HOTTEST ad out there.  Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.")

I've now watched the rest of Anyone but You.  It's dirty work, but someone's got to do it.

Actually it was kind of OK – a “nice" film, full of “nice” people – although inevitably it got a bit silly and soppy towards the end; and there were even fireworks in the background when the "Will they, won't they?" young couple finally (spoiler alert) got together for good.

However I need to return to the subject of the Sweeney's breasts.

She is clearly inordinately proud of them, and indeed I understand that they have aficionados all over the world.  However (with the strong possibility that the Sweeney or her team regularly monitor UKP) I would like to suggest to her that the doctrine of "Less is more" might be applied when her cleavage next appears on film – because I doubt if in the entire history of world cinema there has been a film in which the main character’s décolletage features so relentlessly as it did in Anyone but You.  In the end this becomes quite distracting, making it more difficult to concentrate on the, er, complexities of the plot.

Intermittent appearances would have more impact.

Bitter Gold (2024). A teenage girl fights to keep her family's mining business alive after her father is severely injured. Chilean drama set in the harsh environment of the Atacama desert, debutant director Juan Francisco Olea entertains us with a gritty, sweaty, heartfelt tale, basic humanity triumphing over greed and deceit. Beautifully filmed, the Atacama desert is a spectacular sight, Katalina Sanchez in the lead role is quite remarkable, a surprisingly mature performance from such a young actress. Recommended. A-  Available on Lookmovie2 stream.

Teacher's Pet (2025). Gifted high school student becomes increasingly suspicious of her new English teacher who harbours malevolent intentions towards her. Ropey psychological thriller that just goes through the motions, not helped by two very  bland lead actors and lazy writing, Teacher's Pet is a surefire dud.  D. Available on RidoMovies stream.

It depends pilotman, if you're someone who prefers to watch your films in high quality HD then it might well be worth subscribing so you can upgrade to that format, I'm happy to watch my films in the 480 standard format. The other point to consider is what kind of films do you want to watch, Look2 and other streams have tons of films available, are you more of a mainstream movie fan or more of a niche viewer like myself. For me personally I wouldn't subscribe to the site because I'm picky about the films I watch, however you may have different interests to me and might benefit from having a subscription to the site. It's not a great answer I know but my taste in cinema is not for everyone (it would be a boring world if we all liked the same things  ), hope that kind of helps if you know what I mean.

I do like a wide range of movies, but not most action movies (Bond aside). I'm particularly fond of international films.

I'd probably want to watch movies in hi resolution, especially when my Cinema room is built.

After the major disappointments of the second series of Amandaland and of Mackenzie Crook’s Small Prophets – and in view of the “concept”, which could have gone horribly wrong – I approached Ann Droid (with Sue Johnston and Diane Morgan, BBC1 last night) with caution, and indeed an expectation that I would probably switch off.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.  Beautifully done, very funny and often poignant.  Outstanding television.

I’m pleased to see that Digital Spy gave it five stars, calling it "sharp, witty and gorgeously funny", adding: "Dark undertones may weave in and out, but the heart and the laughter win out every time making it an absolute must-watch."

I went to see Odyssey last night.

I don't see why all the critics are fawning over it, calling it a revelation in cinema.

It's nothing new and not a patch on similar era movies such as Gladiator and Troy IMO.

I watched this and I agree with your comments. I typically find BBC / ITV sitcoms that try and mix comedy and sentiment very cringy but Ann Droid struck a perfect balance. I didn't intend to watch it but it came on after Would I Lie to You (which I do enjoy) and I like Diane Morgan so with nothing more exciting to do I decided to give it ago. I thought Sue Johnston was wonderful in it, really felt for her character. Look forward to checking out the rest.

@PilotMan. Not surprised to hear that about The Odyssey. Decided to wait for a few friends to see it before going, and I don't fancy sitting for nearly 3 hours in the cinema anyway so will probably check it when it's on streaming, if I bother at all.
