The last time I punted in Cambridge a few mths ago was in a very nice refurbed block in a quiet road. I'd parked up in a side street 2mins walk away and as I approached there were two guys sat in cars virtually right outside and a bloke standing by the external door looking shifty with his head buried in his phone. The reason I knew what the two blokes in their cars were up to was because their faces were in a pool of light from their own phones.
With my punting radar going off like mad, these were obviously all guys who had punts with the girl(s) inside.
With the address being known about openly, you can multiply that by two for guys turning speculatively, trying to get fitted in, or simply turning up for the 'thrill'.
Now then, we're not all shifty-looking fuckers up to no good, we make our bookings, we turn up quietly and discreetly at the right time, we go in, do the business and then we leave discreetly. But if every fucker knows what's going on there it ain't like that.
And just like WGs who inevitably get found out by friends and family, word gets round what goes on, both currently and in general. These places get used by one WG after another, via AirBnB or whatever.
Now, imagine you live in the block, especially if you're female.
Imagine if you're a punter getting glared at or sworn at by a neighbour. How discreet do you feel then?
