Davie, I'm quite puzzled as to why you don't have the flu jab even though you're in an at risk group? Saying you're not prone to viral infections does not mean you won't get the flu. I would venture to suggest that so far the thing that's been stopping you contracting flu is a) sheer luck, and b) all the other people (millions in the UK) who DO get the flu jab.
And there is a BIG reason why Covid-19 is different from flu. NO-ONE has been exposed to this Coronavirus before, so NO-ONE has any immunity. Many people have had flu before and have a degree of immunity, even to new strains of the flu which emerge every year. And like I say, millions of people have the jab every year and stop it being nearly as big as it would be, on an annual basis.
It can't be stressed enough, Coronavirus is very different from flu FOR MANY REASONS and should not be likened with flu.
I honestly don't know how many times I have to say it, I take my health extremely seriously, I look into all aspects of it, I don't just think ah well that'll do. I go off what I learn and research as well as my own past experiences.
Anyway getting back to why I don't have a flu jab, it's simple really I don't believe it would be of benefit to me and I've been eligible for years. I have been criticised on here due to the possibility of me taking up a hospital bed, well by me not getting a flu jab it leaves one for someone else, they do run short most winters.
Throughout my whole life I've had bacterial infections but never viral ones. Now I know there's a first time for everything but this stance has served me well for years. I also fully understand that this virus is different to flu, but it is still a virus.
What most people don't seem to realise is I'm only at a slightly greater risk of catching flu than anyone else, the biggest risk I face are the consequences if I do get it. My whole lifestyle is geared up to me remaining healthy, I gave up smoking years ago and the instances of bronchitis have reduced since, following the heart trouble I've given up alcohol, coffee, fatty foods and totally changed my way of thinking. I'm probably more conscious of health matters than most.
I've had a quick look through some of the latest reviews of punts that have taken place this month and have yet to see any comments about the punter actually still punting. There seems to be universal condemnation of me because I've stuck my head above the parapet and said that I will continue subject to precautions I deem necessary.
According to the posts on this thread, because I've declared an intention to punt, I'm going to full my car up, catch the virus, go straight to an escort and infect her resulting in her friends and family dying, then I'm going to be taken to hospital where I'm going to be responsible for other patient's deaths. Yet non of this applies to those who are actually still punting. Pats on the back all round there, funny that, or it would be if this wasn't such an serious matter.
