They're done etickets for some time. If you weren't able to do this before, then perhaps your route has been added to the list of participating operators.

If the ticket isn't used then I think you can get a part-refund but others could advise. However, I'm not sure you can really prevent a girl taking the ticket and using it but not seeing you. You either trust them and pass on the ticket or you don't. Girls maybe willing to accept being paid when you meet if it's not much money.

I tend to have meet and greets with girls somewhere near them in the first instance anyway so if there's rapport and we're going to meet again, then I'm comfortable giving them money for a ticket or getting a ticket.

Yes, it depends on the type of ticket you buy it seems - any sort of open return (day, off peak, etc) is refundable minus a fee within 28 days whereas advance singles are only exchangeable.

And you are correct in that there isn't a 100% failsafe way to ensure someone still won't ghost you the moment they get what they want indeed. Just gotta make them jump through hoops in the process to test how likely they are to be genuine I suppose.

Add to that some of the ones that are 'New' (many arent just new profiles) and want to meet seem to be trying to ball park £300-500 for a meet which is  (and thats not even them quoting for an overnight)

Hi , I just got e-tickets for my regular from Trainline . You can download the ticket and take a photo and WhatsApp it to them . If it’s a new sugar baby , maybe you can just send her one way ticket ? No fool proof way to say it won’t be a waste but if she make one way journey she will have to buy a return which would be Nearly as expensive , if she don’t use it you may get refund subject to terms and conditions of the ticket .

That's a nice idea in theory but a girl is probably going to expect you to pay for two-way trip so 2 singles could be more expensive for you and maybe not worth paying out more to play safe. It would obviously depend on pricing.

Either way, she may not venture out if she doesn't get the insurance of a return ticket in advance because it risks her having to fork out if a guy doesn't show up - after all, guys flake as well as girls.

Agree with this to a certain degree.. although there are some absolute gems in the lesser saturated areas that occasionally warrant the extra effort. Good for you that it worked out in the end but it was a mistake nonetheless to send anyone money in advance so I'd advise strongly against it in general.

The idea behind buying a ticket instead is it still mitigates the risk somewhat as they'd only have the trip itself to gain as opposed to direct monetary benefit should the worst happen. And just because someone is willing to give you some personal info doesn't make it less likely for them to turn out as scammers, in fact I'd argue it's most of the successful ones who tend to do that actually.
