But you do also now have to take a selfie so in theory they can compare the pics. Insofar as age AW do not police that so long as they are satisfied you’re over 18 hence many WGs are permanently 25 
Whereas fields like nationality and gender are locked once you have been verified.
What I have noticed is new profiles with the words “verification pending” are not lasting very long now before many disappear.
So perhaps things have changed.
I have also heard there are extra checks for some countries before they get verified status.
Yes, but whatever photo you send as a selfie, you can put a passport photo of that same person onto a different passport.
No amount of verification will ever stop a bait & switch in any case of course (and they need to be reported to AW as well as here), but nor do AW really know who the profile belongs to.
The age thing is by the by, I merely mentioned that as an example of how easy it is to forge a passport scan. The WG on the profile might actually be the correct girl, but in reality you have no idea of how old she really is. The most important thing though, is that the girl you see looks like her photos, and she's at least 18yrs old
