Some interesting thoughts here.
I shall generalise greatly but in my 20s, when I was being quite free with my sexual excesses, and meeting girls at work and in clubs etc. many of them, not all of course, carried condoms. It was at a time when to do so showed independence long before the ladette culture of the 90s.
The thought was simple, if a woman wanted to go out and pull and shag, then she was entirely free to do so. She was probably on the pill for pregnancy protection but would carry condoms for one night stands without having to have a guy say ‘oh sorry I haven’t got any, let’s do it any way’.
I should say that this was during the AIDS epidemic and people were, generally, much more wary about intimate contact with strangers but I always took it as a sign of an independent, open, yet sensible woman.
These days, if I know I need to provide protection I will buy some on the way to the meet and hand them over unopened so she can see they’re a reputable brand and undamaged.
