Can anyone suggest a good therapist in the Southend on Sea area ? I used to go to the Osteopath Masters in the London rd Westcliff on Sea but they increased their prices and reduced the treatment time. In fact one therapist spent half my session banging on about how muh migrants had enriched Sweden (where he lives) and to not believe the muh far right propaganda. So I stopped going there sometime ago - now I'm looking for someone to sort out my back and shoulders. Any suggestions please ?

Dead Fox, are you talking about a long-term chronic condition that specifically needs an Osteopath (that you mentioned) or a Chiropractor or may a top class Thai who does Deep Tissue or a Chinese who does Acupressure suffice? What is the price level you're at, seeing as a previous practitioner became cost-prohibitive?

Thanks for your response. I'm really looking for a one off thing every now and then. Masters increased theie prices at the same time of reducing treatment time. This coupled with a lecture on the merits of multiculturalism resulted in me looking else where. Can you recommend a Thai or Chinese ? Thanks again. Btw I think I saw the girl/woman you reviewed. I saw her about 5 or 6 years ago in Southchurch road, near the vets. Very good she was too.

Dead Fox, below are the links to the therapist I would recommend for you above all others, Dr Guocui Tian.

For whatever reason her own web site is currently down, but I wouldn't give up too easily.

I 1st saw her at her Leigh Road shop (shop no longer there, but you can see pics of both it and the good Dr).  More importantly, there is a contact # in each of the above links.

Dr Tian helped my own back/shoulder problems with a course of acupuncture/acupressure treatments, although single treatments of either were available. I recommend the acupressure, both from a pleasure and, I felt, effectiveness POV.

Incidentally, she's all-but-cured a skin complaint I had within 6 months of 1st visit that Southend Drs and Hospital specialists couldn't cure, or even make progress with, in over 10 years of trying, by her expertise in Chinese medicines.

I hope she's still working, but I've yet to see her at her clinic.

Should she no longer be around, any of the therapists at External Link/Members Only (new premises here) will be great.

Alternatively, Lin (Orasa) Rogers External Link/Members Only (not seen here, but seen at Tara Thai)

NB All the above are 100% legit, in case not obvious.

Thank you so much for this information. I used to know a guy who taught meditation at Shambhala many years ago now. Before that he was at Shoebury library of an evening once a week. Very interesting chap. I'll check out both of your recommendations - thanks again.

Two years after I retired from active service I had a bout of severe psoriasis that was brought on on by PTSD. I'd always thought Chinese medicine was a load of bollocks, but after everything else had failed to clear it up, out of sheer desperation I saw a herbalist in a Chinese medicine shop at the market end of York Road in Southend. Two months later after drinking disgusting herbal teas four times a day and having a weekly course of acupuncture it had cleared right up.   There's a lot to be said for that stuff.

You're welcome, Dead Fox. Should it transpire that Dr Tian has moved away etc, any info you come across will be gratefully received, as would details on choice you made, even if AN Other's suggestion.

Totally concur with you, Mark. My skin complaint, a recurring atopic eczema also probably occurred as a result of stress, but much less severe than your PTSD. It occurred only 1 more time after seeing Dr Tian, and was much reduced too.

I'm probably guessing your practitioner talked in terms of 'reducing the heat' by 'boosting the yin' (nothing to do with Billy Connelly!) and 'reducing the yang'. It's probably this sort of terminology that's led to much of the skepticism.

As you can gather, I really think highly of Dr.Tian and/or Chinese medicines and would rate way ahead of a typical GP.

Looks like the Chinese lady has gone now ? The Yellow pages advert showed her in a shop. A google search appears to show her working from home. The landline is dead and no response from the mobile alas.

Sorry to hear about your back and shoulder probs.

I found that weight/resistance training has helped me out a lot as well as a better diet, avoiding foods that cause inflammation.

I started my path with the help of high velocity adjustments and massage but decided I didn't want to be a therapy junkie!

Incidentally, a TCM practioner explained that high velocity adjustments were not good but recommended massage. Both sides of the argument make sense to me.

Well done Sir, let me know how you get on.

You might find this interesting - External Link/Members Only
and more involved - External Link/Members Only  (kind of goes against the previous video but the guy has achieved results)

Obviously a professional assessment would be beneficial before any exercise.

Thank again - I will try these exercises. I actually visted this place a few days ago.

I had acupuncture and acupressure. It was okay. Not sure I'd go back tbh.
