Well Strawberry, Fanny and Poppy,

Bet you didn't know that all three of you are oppressed, victimised women who rush home everyday to get beaten up by your pimps and whom you love the more they beat you!

 :dash:

Quote
Roselyne Bachelot, the social affairs minister, favours criminalising clients. She told the commission inquiry: "There is no such thing as freely chosen and consenting prostitution. The sale of sexual acts means women's bodies are made available for men, independently of the wishes of those women.

Of course, this means that all the guys here are oppressors.

I think there is a much bigger picture here :(

"There is no such thing as freely chosen and consenting prostitution. The sale of sexual acts means women's bodies are made available for men, independently of the wishes of those women."

WHAT A CROCK OF S*IT!!!

Whilst I accept that there are girls forced into prostitution against their will and required to do things they don't want to there are women who choose prostitution and work totally independently. I know a number of women who do this. One in particular has done so for a number of years (she may have started out because she was in a tight situation financially) but now owns the apartment where she works from (as well as her home) and has a regular client base as well as any number of new clients from which she is very choosy about who she sees. If it was a question of doing something against her free wishes she would have stopped years ago!  Another I know well and I once asked what made her chose to work . She replied that her husband had de-camped with his PA left her with a mortgage and 2 children to care for and mentioned that she used to go to a local nightclub and bed guys she met there for free. Now she was (to her way of thinking) getting paid for having sex which she mostly enjoyed! I think it's wrong to make sweeping statements like the one quoted from the article.

I am totally against co-ercion and trafficing but I support the rights of people to choose what they want to do and think it high time that the question of prostitution be debated with a view to legalising it!

Offline Matium

prostitution be debated with a view to legalising it!

Prostitution is already legal in both France and Britain.

In both countries, the legal view is that what a woman does in the privacy of her own house is entirely up to her. What is illegal in both countries are brothels.

It's the Rad Fems who want to make it illegal for a woman to work as a prostitite on her own in France and Britain.

You could technically argue that if it weren't for financial reasons, then many women wouldn't enter this line of work.  Then again the driving factor for many other lines of work is usually this too.

I was fed up of never having any spare cash, and working for little recognition. Then again I'd always been excited about the idea of being paid for sex..... :D

Making such a definitive statement shows the ignorance or agenda of this person in my opinion.

As a punter i have no way of knowing for definite whether a WG isnt being coerced, her partner might be coercing her for all i know, unless she tells me or i believe it to be the case all i have is my judgement and in some cases reviews/posts about her from others. I have never been told or believed a WG i have punted with was being coerced or been trafficked. I have years of punting and met many WGs who tell me its been their choice and is good money, whether they enjoy it or not who knows but the same could be said of many people doing jobs they dont enjoy but it pays the bills.

The WGs on here may post their views on this but its certainly a choice some ladies make, Dr Brooke Magnanti obviously being a good example.

Yup.

For every woman who says she is doing this of her own free will, there will be a number of people who say she is lying.  Of those who are doing this of their own free will, and talk about how wonderful their lives are, there will be a number of other women who are not happy, either pushed into it against their will or bullied by some other half, or in the trap of not being able to do anything else.

Some women are busy and making loads of money and some are not.  It's not all as it appears to be, and it's also wrong for us to assume what we do not know just because someone else tells us a different story.

I have found this industry to be overflowing with liars and cheats, and that is - from the website to the reality when she opens the door, and you realise they put what they like on their sites - from the stats to the old photos, to the list of services they promise to provide.

In my own industry there are many girls who lie and take drugs in order to stay thin and marketable.  There are people who encourage them to do this, and they are not acting in the girls' best interests, but to the girls involved, they think they are.  To my way of thinking they are no better than pimps.  Those who think the sex industry is different to any other, are wrong, it's all about putting an image forward, and that is where the lying starts, and the abuse and the pimping take over.

Other girls who are not marketed in this way take full advantage of the fact that they can put what ever they want on a website because - hey - everyone else is doing it.
I could go on.. :)

oconnor ---------------- I thank you for your words of wisdom however that does not mean I agree with you.

I personally think that the vast majority of prostitutes in the UK are more than willing to be in that line of work.

It is not hard to work out why.

Indie prostitute ---------------  £100 -£150 an hour.

Shelf filler ------------  £6 -£7 an hour.

It's a no brainer surely.  ;)

Or any work at all. Would we do our jobs if we could afford not to?

There is much to be said for our working lives, the social scene that it can bring is not to be taken lightly.

Take a look at the unemployed and see how happy they look, why is also that so many pensioners tend to spend together doing very little.

Working life is part of whom we are, and that is not to be taken lightly.

I might. I had a lengthy break from this and I did find that the compliments, presents and constant sex were quite missed.

I have done 20 days work in the 12 months, so probably not worked enough to comment on if I would work or not, but the question of if I was forced into it or not is actually answered above, we are all forced to work. Be it as a taxi driver, plumber or whatever....

Maybe. But if you won the Lotto would you continue to work?

And if one can afford not to work, one can afford leisure and other opps for social interaction which the unemployed do not.

Ah but you see a lottery win isn't that much, once you've bought a nice house, few cars, holiday, helped out a few family members etc. I think I'd still see a few clients for that little bit on the side!

I'm sure James missed you equally Lucy, he just hides his feelings better.  :D
