Author Topic: Frankfurt safety at night?  (Read 1147 times)

I know it isn't always great value but I'm like a moth to light with the walk-in houses like Crazy Sex and Rotes Haus.

Not been for years but I always used to stay at the airport, then pop into the main train station and take the short walk across the road.
Obviously a lively area and a few junkies but never had a problem.

This time I'll actually be staying in the centre, so a slightly longer walk.
Just wondered if the streets are fairly busy at night and I'm not going to find myself as the lone tourist on a long stretch?

I walked about at night last July and felt quite safe.
There were plenty of people around.
Crazy Sexy was a lot of fun.

Frankfurt rld is well police and safe imo. The area is well policed. The second rld is more hidden away but never really had a problem there. I always prefer rlds before 9 pm or so anyway.

Thanks for the answers.
I'm pretty comfortable about the actual Red Light Area as it was never a problem - usually busy and well policed.
Just more bothered whether the streets you walk along to get to the Alt Stadt will be as busy, and it sounds like they will.

I actually live in Frankfurt. The RLD is generally safe, albeit with a good number of junkies, alco‘s & crazies. It is very well policed. The RLD is slowly getting squeezed from the ever expanding banking quarter which it butts (pun slightly intended) up against. The route from the Centre city is fine. If you just follow Kaiserstraße down from Willy Brandt Platz & turn off when you get to Elbestraße it doesn‘t get lonely.

It's generally safe. Only slightly dodgy part is around the station but that has been cleaned up over the last few years (previously had lots of druggies and all that entailed).

Thanks chaps - it's walking through a banking district at night that I thought might be a bit lonely so I think I'll take your Kaiser Strasse route rather than Gallus / Taunus
