I was going to book a WG last night when she asked me where I came from.
I replied I was French and she declined the meet.

Was that because of my specific nationality or because I am not British?

In which way a nationality can matter for a WG?

It is what I assumed. The funny fact is that I am very worry about higien and what made me contact her was that she seemed to be so too (even though I know everyone can write bulshit, but it’s always a sort of relieve to read it).

You are over-simplifying this issue. The only element in common among Latins is that their languages are variants of Latin. But the language alone has no bearings with regards to race, religion, social behaviours, etc.
If you were a Romanian girl you will try to escape from the very people you probably ran away from in Romania. I find it quite reasonable that a woman feeling under threat tries to run away from people who may hurt her, even if she miscalculates the threat.
