Author Topic: Winter punting: How to not freeze your arse off?  (Read 1328 times)

One of the biggest problems with winter punting for me is showing up for a punt cold as a block of ice. A lot of girls are nice about it, but still, they jump when my hands are inevitably freezing cold, and sometimes my whole body is too. Not to mention it's uncomfortable for myself as well.

Obviously if you punt from your car you can relax in warmth until you're called up. But for me, the time walking to- and waiting for the punt always makes me show up cold as an ice corpse. Anyone else have this problem with winter punting? If not, what are your tips and tricks?

Just forewarn as you step in the door, if they're smart they'll offer you a shower to warm up. And have the heat cranked up so you won't be cold when you get out to join them under the covers.

I have circulation problems - my GP told me it was the reason why I qualified for Viagra on prescription when I asked her to check my heart & blood pressure before buying some Kamagra some dozen or so years ago.

So I always put a pair of gloves on before getting out of the car. Because I've usually seen a more mature - & British - WG, I've been used to being offered a drink before getting down to business. Holding a cuppa tea or coffee - but not by the handle - is usually good enough to warm my fingers up before they go anywhere sensitive.

One WG told me she thought I was possibly the best fuck she had ever had.

I didn’t have the heart to tell her I was frozen stiff.  :yahoo:

Whenever I ask to freshen up in the bathroom, I run my hands and wrists under the hot tap for a few and tends to take off the chill. Or run warm water and soak for a minute, WGs seem to appreciate it.

Gloves or a shower on arrival?

Offline Charliehutton

A good set of old fashioned, Grandpa style thermals. If you're a bit long in the tooth they'll make you look like Walter Huston in 'Treasure of the Sierra Madre', which I remember one girl last winter clearly found a bit off-putting, but you'll be as warm as toast.

Offline WARSZAWA16

Sounds like an elephant willy warmer may be the answer:

As long as my dick hasn't shrivelled up  due to the cold weather I just turn the heater up on my car then it's a quick dash to the punting venue. Not outside long enough to worry about getting cold.

Use the stairs instead of the lift... that'll get your heart pumping and the circulation going.  You'll be sweating like Lee Evans after a two hour show at Wembly by the time you knock on the door.   :D

Rare as hens teeth that.... You've more chance of them letting you fist their bums than getting under the covers at the rented love game  :D

Brilliant,

Put glove on, wrap up warm, do like your mummy told you when you went out side as a kid in the cold

What you need to do is to find a SP working from an igloo.

Oddly enough They're as warm as toast.

A simple solution would be to wear sheepskin gloves on your way to the punt, as well as plenty on your top half (good coat and/or thermal underjersey).

Shit, got the same problem.
I don't feel my hands to be cold but quite a few SPs told me my hands were freezing when undressing them or touching them. But they're mostly nice about it.
I don't wear gloves as I feel clumsy/like the look of it so much/smartphones impediments.

How about the Albert Steptoe fingerless gloves so you can still use your phone?

Apparently, some WGs go absolutely crazy for the look, too.

I’d have thought that you’d have had room in your big PDC bag for some hand warmers, a hot water bottle and maybe even a flask with some lovely hot soup in!

A bit of a daft thread, why not just wearing winter clothes?  :dash:

Offline Bonker

Who are you punting?
Nanook? Eskimo Nell?

Please put a link up and a review.

This thread makes you wonder about some people. If they don't know how to keep warm, in our moderate climate, they shouldn't really be allowed out.

If they can't keep warm, they'd better see their doctor.

As Wainwright said - 'there's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing' .

Well Wainwright has clearly never been in a hurricane, had his house flooded, or experienced a tsunami then. What difference does clothing make in those (and other) situations?

Offline Baxter63

Wainwright wasn't talking real extremes - few people cope with them, even the emergency services. Even in the most 'developed' countries. Think Japan, USA, Australia, for starters. Even parts of the UK, that have been flooded - much of which is preventable but that's another story.

He was talking fell walking, hiking, climbing and other outside living and pursuits, that ordinary folk do. As well as just getting on with the easy, day to day, life that we have in the moderate climate of the UK.

In the UK it's easy to wear the right clothes - especially if you're going punting.

Or they could ask their mum for their scarf and gloves.

Offline JayEZ2K

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Here's a compilation of the tips:

...Before the Punt...

Dress warm. Hopefully like External Link/Members Only, and not like External Link/Members Only. Thermals, Scarf, hat, finger-less gloves, smartphone gloves, or sheepskin gloves, warm shoes and socks.

Drink hot tea, and keep your hands warm on the cup.

Wait in a nearby pub, or even a nearby store, if possible.

If she gives you radio silence, leave within 10-20 minutes. (On one of my early punts I waited for an hour in the rain. Damn you BustyClara!)

...At the Punt...

Run up the stairs to get warm (but hopefully not be out of breath)

Take a hot shower, or at least run your hands under the hot tap.

Sometimes I get a deep freeze from hours walking around outside on my punting days. In an extreme case, my first AW punt ever was on Christmas day. Not only was it cold, but the tubes were closed so I ended up cycling 3+ miles to get there (6+ miles round trip). For cases like this, I've looked for places in London with a hot tube/jacuzzi. I know some hotels have them, but I didn't find any that I could just pop into for 20 minutes to thaw the freeze. Maybe a sauna would work, or maybe a hot foot bath at a nail salon.

I've warmed myself under the hot air blowers in restrooms, aiming the hot air down my shirt and even down my trousers. It was a bit embarrassing, but I was freezing my bullocks off.

I’d have thought that you’d have had room in your big PDC bag for some hand warmers, a hot water bottle and maybe even a flask with some lovely hot soup in!
I actually tried those hot packs, but they didn't seem to work very well. Maybe I could rig up that oil radiator, or this... External Link/Members Only

+1 for the having the heat cranked up. I wish all WGs would do this during winter.
