You are spot on, my first visit was around 15 years ago when you got around 70 baht to £, now it is nearer 43.

Barfines at the Golden Beer Bar were 350 baht and a local beer was 70 baht.

You can still get some great hotels for remarkably cheap prices in Bangkok. The quality of what you get in BKK compared to a lot of places, including Manila, is far better. Beers are more expensive than before its true. Overall, though...I'm still not sure how anyone can say it is expensive. Take a trip to Isan. Nice and cheap.

Okay guys - I'm going to give you a little piece of information which connects the modern world with the world you used to know.

I am a regular traveller to ASEAN and the resorts are a place that I pass through now and again along with the big city traps.

If you're looking for the girls that you used to know and meet, try thinking of a new way to find them.

This is one example of how I met regular local girls, who on occasion accepted money, but often just were so curious about meeting a western guy that they would simply meet and then usually end up back at my hotel room where they had their western guy that girls away from the resorts, bars, parlours etc see on a daily basis.

Travel somewhere off the beaten path, my example is when I was in Davao last year. A reasonably large city, (Duterte's home city) and somewhat an advantage, but not compulsory was that it was a university city and I landed my hotel bang in the vicinity of the uni and let WeChat do the work.

I literally couldn't keep up with the messages, video calls and offers to meet local girls, untouched by the constant procession of tourists seeking to bang them, these were girls that were genuinely excited to see and have sex with a western guy, having blue eyes and blonde hair completely elevates this curiousness amongst the girls and it showed. I'm sure I remember getting about 54/55 baht the Christmas before Brexit (so, Xmas 2015) unless I've completely lost my marbles. That's more like 25%. Pretty sure I was getting that then.

As for beers...some dafties will pay 300baht for a beer but there's no need. Go to the right English pubs in central Bangkok and it's still 99 baht for Happy Hour pints and 110/120 for normal time. Like at the "Robin Hood" on Sukhumvit for example. Perhaps not cheap, but still not bad for full pints of the Singha/Tiger/Asahi whatever. Unless talking about importing beers like Guinness which are more expensive.

We are kindred spirits. I don't know why I spent 2 weeks in Pattaya recently as I knew that I would get bored, which I did about a week into the trip. Actually I do know why I went there. I have had some memorable times in the place and wanted to pay one last visit there as a sort of last hurrah. I doubt whether I'll ever get back there.

But I usually organise my punting as a important but not vital part of my travels. I've been to Athens before but many years ago and I was keen to see the place again. So most of the time I was a normal tourist doing touristy things. I'm in Budapest now, a city that I love to bits. I've had one punt (which didn't go too well) and I'll probably squeeze in another before I leave but it's not essential.

My next destination is Warsaw where I intend to do a bit more mongering. But same again, it's a place that fascinates me because I'm a big military history buff so I'm already planning side trips to Auschwitz and possibly the tigers lair aside from the many things to see and do in Warsaw itself.

you can still shag stunners.. last time i was in town i bonked the hotel receptionist .and students still need to subsidize their lessons .you just need to avoid the crumby bars ..head up to khon khan .khorat ..nong khai and chiangmai for quality and learn some thai before you go ..hatyai is ok as hotels deliver gals to your room and if you are not happy with 1 just ask for another
