Getting caught out?!

While I'm sure many of us here are single and organising your punting habitats is therefore quite straight forward, I'm sure for many us the opposite is true. I'm a pretty organised chap and I've always had a fairly good plan to cover myself when it comes to punting and generally like to think my chances of getting caught are pretty slim.

I still managed to very nearly get caught last week though when I got a parking ticket for being in a hotel car park I shouldn't have been at, date stamped photo and everything! And to compound matters I opened it in the room with the missus and started bitching about before I realised what it is! Managed to explain it away as a mistake as I must have been at work at the time (!) but it wasn't something I'd considered before!! Must be more careful next time!

Has anyone else been caught out unexpectedly?

I did toy with the idea of having a second phone but that's more dangerous than using your main one I think! Try explaining why you need two!

I tend not to use my home computer for Punting and if I do Private Browsing takes a hammering but these days I mainly use the AW app, hidden away in a folder it's unlikely to be found by accident (as long as I always close it!) and there's a list of numbers and letters hidden in a saved draft email for when AW goes down.

I've realised recently that driving a fairly distinctive car might prove to be a problem at some point too so might need to start parking a bit more discreetly on visits!

With the mobile phone thing, I have a few old handsets lying around that weren't worth cashing in when I upgraded so don't arouse suspician.

My missus isn't all that techno savvy so I think I cover my tracks sufficiently both with the phone and the PC. If she ever hired a private detective I would probably be fuked in no time at all.

That's the easy part. It's when unexpected texts of special offers, or "I'm working all this week" start coming through, that's when trouble can start. If possible, most members here will advise you to keep a separate punting phone.

You can get secret apps that are pin protected. The one I use is AppsLight and it lets you put two PIN numbers in. One brings up all my dodgy stuff, this site, AW porn etc. and the dummy one brings up my internet banking which the missus would see if she got curious. Never go on my home computer it's too risky. Anyone with a basic knowledge and the right software can find out what you have accessed. The only problem is the regular girl I see only lives 1.5 mile away so have to park carefully as I know some of her not so near neighbours. As far as excuses are concerned I all ways use something blokey like going to the gym, getting a haircut or going to B&Q or all 3. She's not likely to suddenly say she'll come with me.

A punting phone is essential to me. I resurrected one of my crappy old phones, put a PAYG sim card it and keep it turned off and hidden away. It makes and receives calls and texts but nothing else. I don't keep a list of numbers in it long term but when on for a punt I put the WG name under a male name in the phone book and delete it after the punt. I also clear the call logs and text messages. Mrs CBP quite often wants to quickly borrow my iPhone so it would be far too easy to fuck up if I used that.

Otherwise, I use private browsing and only on my work laptop and I don't punt on my doorstep. That said, I was on my way to a punt at a not so local hotel only to get a call from Mrs CBP asking if I wanted anything from the shopping centre next to the hotel. Would have been a bit awkward to explain why my car was in the car park so I bailed.

Got caught out in 2009.

Marriage didn't survive .... She saw a text message on my work phone and rang number. She was a suspicious bugger anyway and the text was to a fake name Just like a business number e.g NAT joinery for a girl called Natalie etc. a few days later a couple of my clients asked if I'd had to go home to collect my work phone, she'd been ringing loads of people.

Like the OP has alliuded, one of the unforeseen aspects of punting is when the unexpected happens.

He got a parking ticket, but it could be a speeding ticket in a town you were not expected to be in, or worse, an accident on the way to/from a punt. Or even worse, an accident when you have the WG in the car, giving a lift to/from train station or your car is nicked or vandalised.

In the day, I can get away with it as I have a plausible excuse, but in a strange town at night that could be awkward to explain away. I chanced my arm some weeks back. Dropped Mrs T at work, headed off for a punt which was just over an hour's drive away, had a great time, and after a supermarket visit, picked her up from work, she was none the wiser. I must be mad.

Even with the PAYG phone, ensure access to it is PIN locked. I have a very old Nokia, and even these have a PIN facility enabled. That way, only you can access it.

I never punt close to home, always at least 10 miles away. Always delete call records and text message immediately after the punt and never use home computers/ipads.
I had a close one last year with the ipad so now I keep it simple, I even delete the browser history after I’ve been on here

Excellent advice for those who cannot do without their smartphones, even if work-issued, as these could be used to track you.

Most of above can be avoided if you simply use a very old PAYG punting phone, where there is no email access, let alone the internet.

One piece of advice if using a SatNav. If you always have it on, then you will be okay with this. However, do not answer your work/private phone whilst on the way to a Punt WHILST your SatNav is on, as you may have some explanation to do if the SatNav decides to speak out the next set of driving instructions whilst you are on the phone!!

Rather than being caught I owned up as a wg gave me an std. I still love my wife so wanted her to get treatment too. It's a tricky one. Posting information about not getting caught out will help punters, but may alert a suspicious partner to new ways to keep tabs.

What I would say, however, is that if your partner is already searching UKP and trying to find ways to catch you out then I fear the game is already up.

I think the greater good is served by publicly stating the pitfalls we've encountered.

I had a nervous moment once . About nine months ago (only my second punt ) I was staying at a friends house (they were away for the weekend , and I was staying in their part of the world - so they kindly let me use their house) .

Scent... watch out for strong perfumes used by some WG. If an issue, ask her in advance not to wear any perfume.

Scent is a major issue. I always shower afterwards if I can, hence I prefer hotels because decent facilities are pretty much guaranteed. Also I never punt within 3 or 4 hours of arriving home if Mrs CBP is in.

And another thing - watch out for parking restrictions. Some hotels, especially those next to service areas, have a maximum 2 hour stay. If the punting location is residential I tend to have a good look at street view to assess the area and parking. Came in useful last week as I had to leave the motor on a parking meter which I wouldn't have expected and wouldn't have had the change for.
