I agree.  As you probably know, there's a Metropolitan Police station on Peter Street, which, before these raids, had brothels operating either side of it, literally a couple of doors away.

I didnt know that but i am not in the slightest bit surprised to hear there is. No doubt at least some plod were in and out of these places as much as the WGs were dropping their knickers. :D ;)

Funny you should mention that!...

Quote
Four Police Community Support Officers have left their jobs in disgrace after being caught visiting a brothel while on duty.  The Scotland Yard PCSOs are said to have abandoned their duties in Soho, central London, to visit a vice den a few doors down from a neighbourhood police office in the early hours of the morning.

I think you're right... it looks like the cops in this pic are comparing notes on the prossies they shagged before they arrested them :)

As others have said on here, this is another police PR exercise of questionable intent.

If it wasn't, they'd have just got on with it, instead of taking half of London's press and TV cameras with them.

Yes there's far too much of this these days.

When they arrested Pete Townshend they made a fucking documentary out of it!   And that turned out to be all a load of nothing.

Mind you he must have co-operated in the programme.

Perhaps the raids were the result of a cop getting bait-n-switched :)

That reminds me of the time i had to fight my way out of a clip joint in my youth. What amazes me is they still exist, the police obviously know about them yet they just allow them to continue ripping people off.

It's not actually illegal to rip people off by selling them ten-quid glasses of coca cola, or whatever it is that they sell in the bar in those places. Anyone who steps inside must surely need their head looking at if they think they're going to get anything other than shafted.

The fuzz, quite rightly in my view, don't care whether we get ripped off or not, and have generally turned a blind eye because everyone in Soho has mostly co-existed peacefully for a very long time.

No but it's illegal to extort hundreds of pounds from customers (billing them for companionship from the skanks who will befriend customers as they enter and ask to be bought drinks), threatening them and in some cases carrying out acts of violence and/or holding them against their will until they pay up.

I can't find the link to it off-hand but last week I was reading about a police crackdown on trafficking. According to the news article they made about 500 arrests, but when you read the true version of events, only about 20 of those arrests resulted in a case going to court and of those 20 cases only 5 resulted in prosecutions. And of those 5 people, all of them had already been arrested and put on watch lists as part of previous investigations. The net result of the crackdown being that the police failed to actually find any victims and the only criminals they found were those they already knew about. That's politics for you.

Totally disagree.
These clip joints must be closed down, the quicker the better.
A tourist could easily be tempted into one of these clubs and end up being marched to an ATM to settle their £300 bill for a few hostess drinks.

Correct label them clip joints to make them sound better, the reality is it is mugging / theft / intimidation and should be stopped  :hi:

Exactly, men who walk into these places should not be labelled as mugs, it could easily happen to me in another country ------- in fact it did on one of my first visits to Thailand.    :scare:

Does that scam still go on? I thought it had died out in the 1990's.   :(
If there was an up-front entry fee - for the sake of argument say £90 - I'd be happy enough to pay it and I wouldn't mind buying one or two overpriced soft drinks at £6 a go. But if they tried to rip me off like that I would get my money back.

With respect you are clueless.

Get you money back.     :D  :D

More likely two Bulgarian thugs will "escort" you off the premises.

I'd tell you what I'm talking about but it wouldn't earn me any friends on here. Enough to say I have a cousin and a mate of his who can take care of that kind of thing, and I don't need their help.

No problem, I suspect you are an internet tough guy, met dozens of them over the years.

No I'm not an internet tough guy and I'm not a tough guy in real life either, all I can say is I stand by what I said.

OK, let me advise others then.

Don't even think about going into these Soho clubs, girls will sit with you and talk you into buying them drinks, when you decide to leave you will be presented with an outrageous bill, when you protest the heavies will appear and "convince" you to pay or march you to the nearest ATM.

Absolutely correct JRC.....back in the early 90's when I was very younger and just into my punting career, I foolishly went in to one and got stung!  :diablo: Not sure how much I lost, but did damage to the Bank Account!
I also got clipped in the street for cheap sex aswell......and lost £100 or so with a phoney 'deposit'.......What a fucking idiot I was then!

Being threatened with physical violence and manhandled against your wishes is an offence though. Many tourists go to Soho and dont know the score, in my view they are innocent victims of this practice.

IMO its the police job to stop crime happening and taking action when it does so i dont agree the police should be turning a blind eye. They should be arresting those that threaten and manhandle people.

I very much agree with this, there is always a fresh supply of inexperienced and naive people, typically small groups of young men out on the town for some fun who say "hey it's Dave's birthday, let's go to a strip club or something" not expecting any kind of trouble. If you ask me, THAT is the status-quo of Soho and the police are failing to do anything about it. I'd never go into one of those places in the UK because I'd expect it to be a scam, I have been thinking about taking a trip to Pattaya in Thailand though, where the prices are far lower and they say you get a lot more for your money too. Over there the go-go bars are a rip-off to some degree but it's an affordable rip-off. I'd have to visit at least one good one just for the experience. BTW, if anyone is interested check out the Pattaya-Addicts forum, it's great.

I have been to Pattaya over 20 times since 2001.

The cost of a bottle of beer is £3, a ladydrink is £2 ------------------- while that may not be cheap for a third world country it is hardly a rip off.
There is also no entrance fee in any of the Go-Go bars, if you decide to sit down you must buy a drink.   :hi:

I do work at a few places in Soho and yep the area is next to be turned into a another bland tourist destination, a lot of places have shut and been turned into franchise restaurants a lot of people are moving out as the rates are silly. The places I work don't have to worry too much. As they're dealing with film and TV production.

But non franchise restaurants and some of the gay and sex shops I don't think they'll be there for much longer I give it 2 years max before the whole place is changed.

Which is a shame but central London is now foreign rich playground.

I saw this in the metro (free london paper) the other day....

I was in Soho that night....
I was there with a work night out for xmas...

We went for dinner in baker street and then to soho for drinks - we saw all the police cars/vans....
wondered what all the fuss was about....

But they will never be able to take Soho Square and Golden Square away from us.  Nowhere else on God's green Earth have I witnessed so many stunners sunning themselves in the warmer months.  Golden Square in particular, in summertime, is crammed so full of classy, and either scantily-clad or fashionably-tight-business-attired young crumpet that when I go there to sit down and eat my lunch I can't decide where to lay my pervy fucking eyes.
