So here they are again, the pundits on about how bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics.
What are we supposed to do - not take them for our illness now, so that we protect mankind in the future. What a wonderful, selfless thing to do! How many takers for that idea?
Just try telling that to anyone who is ill and suffering, who has a child, or maybe an elderly relative, "Sorry you can't have these, even though they will probably help your illness, we have to safeguard a future which might not happen".
The drug companies are forever researching and bringing out new products because they have to do that. It's what they always have done, and when their existing products look like they are not going to work anymore, the research folks will get their heads down and find something that does.
