Question about Sandyford

Hi folks, was wondering if you could help.

Been trawling the web and have found conflicting answers to this, and thought this might be a good place to ask. Wish I'd found this site earlier by the looks of it!

I'm giving up punting and was attempting to get a quick check-up to make sure all was well. I was under the impression that you could do this anonymously but on the phone I had to spend 5 minutes pretending to be surprised that they couldn't find any record of me under the fake name I gave! In the end i mumbled some pish about 'going to look into it' and hung up.

I have 2 relatives who work as nurses so I'm particularly reticent to give my name as I'm not sure how much access staff have to these types of things.

So - does anyone know what the protocol is and if I can get tested anonymously no bother? Apologies if I'm hassling the wrong forum.

I think Lloyds Pharmacies now offer an annonymous check which wouldnt show on your NHS records but you have to pay £60 for their check I think. Haven't had a check at the Sandyford but have known people who have who have said they want details of all the people you have slept with when they do a check!

Sandyford does not share your details with your GP, unless you want them to.  There is an opt out section on their form.

If you're concerned amazon have STD testing kits that are a bit fiddly at first.  Not sure if it's ok to post an amazon link here, but you can PM me if you want one.  The last test I ordered tested everything except for syphilis and HIV, you'd need to get that separately.  Terrence Higgins trust in Glasgow does same day (30 min) HIV tests in their Sauchiehall St (TUES nights) and East Kilbride (THURS nights) offices. You don't even need to give your real name.  I never. I just made one up and used a duff GP office and ticked the box not to share info with GP.  NHS Scotland use your CHI number to identify you which the Sandyford falls under, but THTrust is a charity, so different databases of information. They don't have access to your NHS notes

  Google GUM clinics Glasgow and you will find several private clinics who will take care of you for a fat fee - one in Shawlands has a full-service check-up at (from memory) over £250. I've seen others over £400. I believe they offer a more anonymous service and faster results, but can't possibly comment as I would rather scrub my cock and balls with a wire brush and Dettol than pay those sorts of amounts for a health check 

Pays your money, as they say.........or do what I do and go to Sandyford for a free MOT. They could not care less how many hookers you've shagged and, as others have already said, they won't contact your GP unless you give permission and you are in danger of your cock festering and falling off

Nobody, staff or otherwise, should be accessing your health records without good reason, and the NHS has processes in place to make sure unauthorised access is not given. Anyone accessing your records just 'out of interest' would be on a serious misconduct charge and out the door pretty quickly.

"Everyone working for or within the NHS who records, handles, stores or otherwise comes across patient information has a personal common law duty of confidence to patients and to his or her employer. The duty of confidence continues even after the death of the patient or after the employee or contractor has left the NHS. Breach of this policy will mean the organisation is not safeguarding information entrusted to it, which in some circumstances may render the organisation liable to prosecution. It is therefore essential that staff within the organisation with responsibility for records management comply with the policy otherwise they may be subject to disciplinary procedures."

Not sure whats so embarrassing about a sexual health check? Its called being sensible and safe, regardless of your reasons for visiting.

As for your nurse-friends, goodluck to them keeping their jobs if they were ever to check up your health records nevermind discuss them with you or others!

I use a mail order service - piss in a tube (first piss of the day) and post.  Results online in a few days.

For HIV you can find that online and turn up at a pharmacy.  They use a little insta-prick thing which is fast and doesn't particularly hurt.  Instant result.
