Hi guys,

I have today come across this forum randomly on the net and I just can’t believe I didn’t know about it could have helped me so much in the Uk.

Anyway I need somebodies help, I am planning to go Medellín and need a hotel to stay that is guest friendly ( one that doesn’t rip me off with high extra fee), I don’t mind paying a little extr per jock but not crazy money, can anyone recommend me any in the town centre where all the bars clubs are...first time to be advised to stay there.

Thanks
Michael

Just google or use ISG to find The Mansion. Book well ahead. Owner is a punter, will take you round the best cheap brothels. (Mansion is two hotels next to each other.)Parties with approved prossies in the evening. Ideal for first timer or even experienced punter who doesn’t want the hassle.

We’d need to know more about you (post some U.K. reviews and you o/s punting experience). I’m not going to recommend a downtown venue to someone who will get themselves killed. Apartments in Poblado area are also a safe choice for beginners.

You seriously need to do some research on Medellín by the way based on your comment ‘where all the bars are’. It is not like that.

And yes, it’s Colombia. Columbia is something to do with the USA.

Hi,

Firstly I apologise as I typed last message in a hurry and should have been more detailed, using a mobile so a pain to type.

Ideally I want a hotel in the Parque Lleras area as I hear this is the safest part of town and also the best for a newbie.

Yes I have already asked the mansion but they don’t have all of my dates, there is 10 of us going for a stag and I’m organising it....long story but the best man pulled out and I took on the task as the stag wanted to go there.

Do you have to all stay at mansion to use it’s facilities as I’m thinking we could take rooms they have but then another guests might not be allowed in as they didn’t stay there.

A few people have mentioned apartments but s bit wary as don’t want some girl getting her friends to rob us when we sleeping etc with guns....everywhere else I’ve been I’ve had apartments Thailand, Romania, Barca, Latvia, Philippines.

Do you know of any hotels in this area that are guest friendly with no fees or at least minimum fees, failing that an apartment with security that you have used or agent you recommend.

Thanks
Michael

Mansion is worth it in my opinion even if only a few of you stay there. For one thing, the owner will let you join him on his morning run for pussy downtown. That will save you a vast amount of time finding them, how to get between them easily, and the routine when you go on. You will then be able to take friends not staying at Mansion when you go the next day. Leras itself is ok but like a lot of nightlife areas also gets a fair amount of piss & shit (ie it’s nicer looking at night than in the day.) Mansion on the other hand, while only a few minutes away, is in a very good area, with classy restaurants and shopping just by crossing the main road. You can lunch with normal decent Colombians not just tourist trash.

I can visit Mansion probably as a former guest but it works as a personal courtesy, there are no ‘rights’. You could ask him about inviting one or two buddies to the evening parties and paying a small entrance fee. But the disco (main house) is not huge. There may be half a dozen girls there. Quite an intimate atmosphere and very friendly bar. But take a whole stag party there? You get my drift. It would destroy the feel of the place, especially for paying guests.

I’ve stayed in other (even more) upmarket hotels in Poblado and got things done but I cosied up to staff to get it. Bear in mind there are some very rich people staying in the good ones. You are not ‘special’.

Ideally I’d suggest booking as many into Mansion as can accept you. Even rotate it if you are staying more than a few days. Book the rest into a rental apartment in Lleras.

Lleras is not crawling with brothels just lots of restaurants nightclubs etc. A very good salsa club if you can dance. So good for picking up civvies if you have looks, money, dance moves and above all Spanish.

The nearest big brothel area is a couple of Metro stops away (evening punting). Average.

The downtown areas are not recommended for staying in although I’ve stayed there at several different hotels. The brothels scene there is safe and excellent value (especially with Mansion’s guidance). It is best to go in the morning when they open.

The evening scene is the opposite side of the Metro tracks on downtown. I like it and have stayed there in the cheap shit hotels but it is dangerous. Most people, including local punters, would tell you not to go there. It’s at the back of the museum. (Prossies are available daytime but it looks shit in the day.)

Another option for you is to hire a fixer. Not my scene but in Medellin the sky’s the limit depending who you know. A guy did great business pimping girls who would look the part among civvies ( ie not look like a prossie), go dancing and dining and wining in Lleras all night and with a guaranteed classy fuck at the end of it. He got busted though. (Mansion prossies are mostly classy — if you find one you like you could probably book them for an evening out — it is considered an honour to be invited to work there.)

You can also look through this forum for Vivago’s posts if you are into social media. He’s good at it whereas I like free-range.

Good luck. Bear in mind Medellín is not Patpong. Your stag group will need some Colombian manners and avoid trouble. But neither is it the gang war territory it used to be. In fact it’s an amazing, varied, very beautiful city. Not just whores. But it does live up to it’s reputation of having an extraordinarily high number of the most beautiful girls in the world.

p.s. we are not yellow pages or a punting travel agency. So I hope this has been helpful but don’t take advantage of replies you get. You are expected to contribute.  :hi:

As it’s a general Medellin thread here’s some hopefully useful stuff, not that old. Someone can maybe add to wiki if it’s not there. Out of these (a nice cluster downtown mostly walking distance from each other) as far as I remember I enjoyed Aiffe and probably New Life the best.

AIFFE
Calle 57 (Argentina) #43-27. 5-6 Chicas 32k 30m, 55k 1hr.
M-Thu 10am to 8, Fri-Sat 10am to 9, Sundays 11-5pm.

FANTASIAS
Carrera 47 (Sucre) #53-42, piso 1, (Hotel Premium Plaza)
(diagonal Teatro Sinfonia)
8-10 Chicas 30k 30min., 45k 45m, 60k 1hr, 100k+ TLN.
M-Sat 10-7:30pm, Sundays 11-5pm.

NEW LIFE
Calle 56 (Bolivia) #43-39, 2 piso, between Palo and Giradot.
15-20 Chicas 40k 30min., 52k 45min., 65k hour.
M-Sat 9-8pm, Sundays 10-6pm.

SEXI
Carrera 45D # 57-67. 254-5736.
10-15 Chicas 30k 30 min, 40k 40 min, 50k hour.

YAKUSA
Carrera 50A #53-38.
40k 30 min; M-Sat 10-8 pm, Sun 10-5pm.

ZANDALY
Carrera 47 #57A-34 (2nd floor)
30K 30 mins, 40K 40m, 50K 1hr.
M-Saturday 10-8pm. Sundays 10-4pm.

The above brothels are on the slightly safer side of downtown, but don’t linger late in the day. Robberies occur as you get close to the Metro by the Museum. Nearest hotel is The Gran, which is also well placed for the fastest road to and from Poblado (still slow in rush hour though). The starting fare when I was there last was 2,700 Pesos for all taxis in Medellin unless your going to the airport which is set at 60,000 Pesos. There’s a cheapo bus everywhere if you’re skint and it takes ages. Taxi drivers don’t always know the way but are mainly ok.

The area around the Museum is ground central for cheap whores (and at night also robberies so depends how streetwise you are). The main strip begins on the street at the back of the Museum. If you want to “blend with the trash” then Hotel Conquistadores is in the middle of downtown and incredibly only cost me £10 a night. It’s on the next street parallel to glue-n-fanny row.

For Mansion
6 months book ahead recommended or just ask which nights are free when you get to Medellín without commitments. The fancier rooms are booked ahead and the same price as the smaller ones. (The ethos is you pay for the experience of staying there).
M1 is the action. Girls mostly arrive when the bar and dancefloor opens at 6pm. M2 guests walk a short distance to access the M1 bar and dancefloor.
World according to Boyd (the owner) but good for all that. 150,000 COP for a short time or negotiated.

Mayorista is another big fannyflaps street. Metro to Ayura then up Calle 85 a couple of hundred yards. Completely safe but fairly missable. (Metro passes are quite a good deal, very quick, like Oyster cards).

ONE OTHER THING. Please don’t pm me or post me with lots of questions. That’s more info than I ever had before going and if it isn’t enough you’re maybe better off going somewhere less wild. Use it if it helps and write a report when you get back.  :hi:

Hi guys,

My experince so far in booking a place to stays

I emailed a few apartments via Airbnb and hotels, apartment owners were like no no to tourist interest ed in punting as rules were strict no guests allowed, one even told me security will stop me.

Hotels is another question....some have been clear  That a guest fee is required for for guess each time they visit of 70,000 plus tax of 19% whiles other have been guests over night pay only.

Some hotels have said guests in daytime is free and evenings I gotta either pay 70,000 plus 19% but if I book room for double occupancy I only pay 19% tax  for guest (at rates on day)

And some have tried to rip me off by saying one thing but when questioned in detain changing their minds.

I hope this helps others, quick question does the mansion charge a fee for guests? I did email them but haven’t heard back if even free yet

Would your recommend Air B&B apartments in Medellin the quality looks great and prices are very good for what’s now a stable city.

Never used them in Medellin. I've stayed in cheapest shit (no-one gives a fuck who comes in), middle range (one asks discretely for permission), and top range (must be joking if they'd let a whore in). I don't claim my experience goes for all hotels though. At Mansion I had the in-house girls so didn't ask but my guess is they might not mind as long as they are vetted (getting a booking at Mansion is the big challenge; pussy on the other hand grows on trees).

I'm curious as to how they would know. Looking at airbnb, you can easily rent out a whole apartment in Medellin for cheap. I don't see what would stop you from bringing a guest up - unless they do have guards there, but I'm guessing most apartments wouldn't have that.

That's my plan for when I visit anyway - rent a whole apartment in a safe part of town, don't see the same prossie twice.

Because the neighbours will inform them whats going on, or the security/concierge will tell the home owner. I would personally try to offer the concierge a gift to turn a blind eye.

I've not tried it in Medellin but it can't hurt. I used to give a concierge a six-pack of beer if I arrived at a new apartment in Rio. Of course, there is always a snobby cunt that sticks with the neighbours. Some of Poblado is pretty tight. But unless it's in the agreement that you can't have visitors or you're taking back a constant stream, I can't personally see what they'd be likely to do about it.

Funny enough when i was recently in brazil it was my first time using airbnb and i gave the security guard a bottle of smirnoff vodka, it always helps to grease a few palms.

I don’t know the way Medellin works as much as I know Brazil though. The guy could check back on the ISG thread. Poblano is particularly sensitive (basically they don’t need to cater to punters when there’s high paying (non-punter) tourists (including well-heeled trendy young Colombians) and sometimes a shortage of apartments. I can only give my experience, not hold the guy’s hand. If it’s the sort of person that needs a lot of advice and advance arrangements, they’re best going to Mansion, where the owners will look after them.

Do a lot of apartment blocks in Medellin have concierges though?

I've never been there so could be completely wrong, but in most cities I've been to it seems to be a minority.

I reckon you could easily scope this out on Airbnb by asking the host 'how secure it is' and checking out their reviews.

Plus you could always meet the hooker around the corner and just walk her into the building. For all they know she is your friend.

ISG research definitely needed.

Medellin is a huge city. There are many, many different areas. I could go on and on about different areas and you wouldn't be much wiser, and it would only be the areas I've stayed in, which probably not where you are going anyway. Considering crime levels, if I was AirBnBing an apartment in Medellin I'd expect some security of some sort and I've certainly seen them but I don't airBnB any more. Sorry, I kinda lose patience, same as when guys ask endless questions and tips about Rio (and any apartment you are likely to rent in Rio will have a concierge, steel gates and high, impenetrable fences). If you've never been to a South American country you need to get there before you even know the questions to ask.

If in doubt, stay at Mansion, at least until you find your feet. They've only been held up and robbed once afaik.

The bold print sums it up in one   :hi:
Rightly the Gringo habit of tipping everyone , excessively tipping and all of the time tipping is strongly critisized but the exception to this is your security guard at your rented condo . This guy can determine whether you end up fucked up in a really nasty way or whether you and your family are safe . Don't tip him on the last day of your vacation you need to make your 50% of your insurance pay off to him from day one of meeting him  and treat him like you are his new best friend not like he is some insignifcant further annoyance in your life .
