asks how far you'll travel for a punt. What I'm asking is how far you'll go before
you punt, so that you don't run the risk of "shitting on your own midden", as we say oop north.
For me; living in one of the north's metropolitan counties, I'd never
punt in the town I live in these days. Nor the neighbouring one. For me, it's a minimum journey of 90 minutes by public transport. That may only be 12 - 15 miles; but it's far enough from home to punt with someone who works in an area where I don't know anybody.
Part of me wishes I had Jimmyredcab's attitude of saying to the world, "I'm a punter; get over it." [I'm putting words into your mouth, Jimmy, but I think they're the one's you utter.] But, given my upbringing, I know that I never will have that courage.
