Its interesting how cost/VFM conscious I have become since I've joined UKP. That's probably not the case, is scaremongering and I think you've swallowed what SPs who didn't want to offer RO told you.

There is a lot of uncertainty about what causes BV - it's a bacterial imbalance not hygiene - and in fact one possibly cause, ironically, is too much douching.
It is possible if they were paranoid about cleanliness and being clean, so douched a lot and eased off when they stopped taking RO.
Or they got proper treatment. Or they eased off on smoking. Or they used condoms with all their sexual partners not just most. Or they weren't being entirely honest.
The point is that it's hard to say for definite.
