It is total bullcrap. Hotel Keycard's are generic, and are programmed for the room, not the person. The hotel will not even notice if you take the card home as a souvenir as as soon as your stay is finished, the card will no longer work and hotels lose 1,000s of keycards over a year.

That is correct as far as I know --------------- in fact on a couple of occasions in Thailand my keycard has stopped working before the end of my stay and had to be reprogrammed.   :hi:

The C/C details would be on the hotel computer, absolutely no need for them to be on the keycard.

I quite often stay in Premier Inn and a few times I have gone to a meeting in the morning on the last day intending to checkout at lunchtime, only to get back later than expected and find the key no longer works. If you return after the checkout deadline, usually midday, the key will have automatically expired.

I have left keys in the room on departure without a problem, but I don't think I would leave a key AND a pro$$ie in the room as I leave!  :P

I detest key cards. The number of times I've waited for a lift, gone all up to my room, only to find the damn thing doesnt work. I prefer a metal key any day (which can also be used to lock her in in case she takes a fancy to your valuables.)

Too long to read all that.

Which is why I just gave the link. The same details can be found on any number of urban myth sites. There's loads of regulations about storage of credit card data anyway. As anyone who offers Merchant Services knows too well.

I have worked in hotels, (as a boring Financial Controller), and did the odd Duty Manager shift. I can not speak for ALL hotels, but there is no link between person and keycard. No details are stored on them. If I had to get access to an empty room, I would get a card done which was linked to nothing. Hotels would have to spend million, (Data Protection act), if they had that had personal details on the keycard

Yep, have to agree with Baz. I'v used Travelodge, Premierinn, and Ibis that have keycards. I always make sure the punt leaves the hotel before leaving myself. Then just walk out without even a glance at reception.

My next punt soon is in Gloucester.

If I had to get access to an empty room, ...
Sounds like a good perk.

That's terrible advice, the keycard can often have your credit card and personal details on it  :dash:

Silly boy :)
