How many angles does a figure of eight have?  :P

Ahh I knew someone would pick on that... it has 8 angles if you look at the original Arabic numerals, you are still thinking of modern stylised numbers ;)

Regardez s'il vous plait!

And voila!  :yahoo:

Not only does she charge £500 an hour, you also 'must be decent looking' to be granted the honour of her company for that hour.

I have put a dash across sevens since my computer programming days. Back in ancient times when programmes written by hand we crossed sevens to distinguish from ones, and also cross zeros to distinguish from the letter O. God that makes me feel old. :dash:

I accuse you of having been a COBOL programmer!!!

Basic and Pascal is what we had to learn.

Do they still exist/get used?

Guilty as charged. It was a great job for several years back in the early 80s. Very well paid and I really enjoyed it too. The long liquid lunches on a Friday were great too. After one particularly good "lunch" one guy fell asleep and gently slid under his desk. Stayed there snoring for the afternoon and no one bothered him.

Fox Pro was nice... but I had to make do with dBase II

Basic and Pascal is what we had to learn.

Everyone had to learn Basic and/or Pascal - I started with Basic on a CP/M Superbrain machine

Anyone remember those? That's years before PCs took over the world.

But like I said before - it's been ages since I wrote a line of code in any language. Shame really - it used to be fun writing programs and seeing them going live. It was like having babies and you release them to the world. There were no fucking viruses then and everyone was all for sharing ideas and helping each other.

Sorry this is going totally off topic!

You mean the small ones then! An Xerox (I think it was) with dual 8 inch floppies was still in use when I started working. Thankfully PCs were just around the corner. I managed to avoid COBOL at work, but at University to prove the unsuitability of languages for certain tasks we were required to write a scientific calculator program in COBOL and a text formatting program in FORTRAN...
