So you're out on a punt or going out on a punt.... what reason/excuse do you give about what you're doing or where you're going?

Be careful though. Don't want to get caught out like that guy did when the 'Twin Towers' were hit by those two planes!
Apparently his wife called in a panic asking where he was, he said...

"In my office darling, why the panic?"

My job involves working out of my home office, random meetings and nationwide travel which requires me to be away and sporadic intervals, no excuse required! :D

Like the poster above, my work life is pretty varied and involves plenty of out of the office activity (ahem) so weaving a 30 min slot in here and there is no big deal.  I have told my wife I'm "out for a ride on my bike" though (more of a euphemism than I first realised ...), and that works quite well.  Have to be careful though, pride comes before a fall...

Gotta laugh at the Twin Towers story... imagine what twisted reflections you're going to have about that ... "oh you faithless cur... well, if it weren't for my compulsiveness, I'd likely be dead... divorced, but alive..."

The best punting excuses have their foundations in the truth - 100% bullshit rarely works its better to bend/modify the truth, ensure you make up  a plausible excuse for being in the area (work, visiting friend - Even shopping !!).

As I've said on other threads, reading posts like the OP's reminds me that I could never punt if I were in a relationship - I'm such a rotten liar, I blush very easily and would be caught out FAR too easily.

Going out with a group of mates is usually my excuse.

As was said 'bullshit' rarely works, it's a matter of bending or even adding to the truth!

If it takes an hour to do something, add on an extra 'nothing' to it, say.... a traffic jam, flat tyre, long queue in the bank etc etc, then there's the extra time you need!

I have to laugh sometimes because very often one of the regular girls I see asks me where I am now while I'm seeing her!!!  :D

Whereas i have had an adult life time to refine my lying and cheating. Being selfish really is a big advantage punting wise.

A great cover i have used for years is playing Golf. Even in bad weather, though not when there is Lightning :bomb: or Snow i can still say i was playing or was at the driving range. The great thing is i do play Golf and have done before a round, so the round with a Buggy might really take 3 hours, i said it took 5. I refer to my Golf partners as Golf buddies and it is the case i can pair up with another guy i dont know if one of my mates cant make it. So my partner never meets these Golf buddies as i only see them at the club. I also play at various clubs not saying exactly which one on the day.

Its also been the case that i havent had really obviously blatant nosey partners, i wouldnt put up with that anyway. I know some punters have to account for their every movement. If you have a partner like that it makes it that much harder of course.

When i was working i was always out and about anyway so could and did easily squeeze punts in. The big task was in 2008/9 when i was going to LMP parties at least 3 times a week for a year, so with driving time that was at least 7 hours x3 days i had to cover virtually every week they were open. I invented lots of extra Golf and being out and about. ;)

A crucial thing i have seeked to avoid is asking someone like a mate who knows my partner to lie for me. They are up for possible scrutiny and questioning then, even without me knowing about it, if a partner was suspicious. Never happened as far as i know, but using unaccountable strangers is far easier for me.

His handicap was probably a sore dick!

I guess those extortionate green fees were a good cover too ("...and they insist we pay the bloody green fees in cash, dear!").

I have always had secret money stashed away. Just as well as covering at least £600 a week minimum (LMP  were £200 then £240 for 2 two hour parties then) and often £1000 a week for that year 2008/9 would of been a bit of a problem otherwise.

If cash is a problem for any punters start using cashback in shops is my advice, then use some of that, again assuming your partner doesnt minutely scrutinize every penny.

Also pay for petrol in cash not by card, a lot can be put aside here over time. However, only do this if you have a partner that is not so nosey she will give you the third degree for changing your habits. Some women can pick up on habit changing, thinking its something suspicious.

Same for me. Pretty much all my punting is daytime & timed so I never return from a punt when the missus is already home from work.

Yep, much as I'd like to go cashless, just for this hobby's sake I still pay for some things in cash and £100 from the ATM machine is £80 wallet, £20 punting fund right away then £10 or £20 migrating to the punting fund if the £80 stays in the wallet for any length of time...

I have got into the habit of offering to go for my o/h if she is suggesting something like Maccy D's or pizza for us.  Usually easy to get the cash from herself then pay using my (separate account) debit card.

Cashback is always good for £20 at the supermarket too.

Over a month you can trouser a fair amount this way and score a few good-boy points with her too, which is ironic :)

Daytime punts for me now, so it's either a half day at work or on my day off the fishing rods go in the car. That way I can get away all day without suspicion. As others have said, I always get £100 ot of a cashpoint and pocket £20 myself. That uusually takes care of a punt each month. If I need another punt my slush fund at the secret bank account comes in handy, I have a few thousand in there, after winning a tribunal claim and keeping some back.

You are lucky as your OH or kids don't raid your wallet whilst at home.  :D

I know of some members who have stashed the extra cash in secret bank accounts, or topped up into PAYG Credit Cards,
or have left the cash hidden in the car or at work, so that it is out of sight on any preying eyes. One member keeps it in
a sealed envelope and gives it to the Accounts Dept at work for safe-keeping in their petty cash tin / work safe.

Maybe we should remember this is a public forum  :scare:

If my partner ever read this thread she would so easily put 2 and 2 together.

Our partners and SOs aren't stupid, just in the dark.  I want mine to stay that way.

Offline haystacks79

No other half for me to worry about, but I punt in an area that I'm often legitimately in anyway, for several reasons, so if anyone should ask then I have a good excuse for being there.
