I guess staff are keeping their eyes open and I suppose it is fair enough, but it's a two edged sword.

never though TL suitable anyway.

I used TL all the time for SA meetings never had a problem.

Generally I dont check in with the girl next to me tho

Offline Taggart

While not defending TL, their staff are clearly trained in spotting certain situations. This could have been an abduction, trafficked, underage sex through grooming or anything, so while embarassing to the customer and his daughter, the child's safety was the priority. TL are damned if the do, damned if they didnt.

As for providing proof of age when booking, this can easily be faked and needs to be checked on checking in.

Problem is what ID is suitable if child has no passport? I know of adults who cant open a bank account because they have no passport, no driving licence.

Whereas I have found many TLs suitable and not had any problems of note so far, this is either for visiting WGs in their rooms, or for affair purposes.

I wasn't being critical of TL, just alerting guys to be careful.  So many nasty people who do abuse youngsters it behoves us all to be extra vigilant. That does mean taking care. I am seeing a student who is escorting to get through college, 18 but looks younger (I made her show me her driving licence as she could easily pass for 16). I have found a regular very discreet place to meet, which is what made me think about potential risk at Hotel chains.

I've noticed in the NW the girls seemed to give up on Travelodges around a year ago. Possibly due to fewer of them working the motorway hotels, but more likely because virtually all the TLs round here require card access to get past reception. Bit of a problem: either the girl has to come to reception to let a stream of men in, or you have to sweet talk the desk staff into letting you pass (unlikely in reality)

Shes a child, obviously so IMHO, whats that got to do with punting?

Used TL lots of times over the years, never a problem

Last line of report.

"We continue to work with the hotel industry, taxi companies and licensed premises to make them aware of possible warning signs of children at risk."

I wonder how many taxi drivers in certain parts of the country ever reported anything untoward, answers on a small postcard

Absolutely.

Well the police wouldn't have known anything about it in the first place because there's no way the hotel staff wouldn't have dared "used their training" in that situation.

Hotel staff knows it goes on

Some management turn a blond eye as having police presence on site gives  a bad image
Other hotel management just don't tolerate

I haven't used TL but this article wouldn't stop me. The point is if you bring an underage girl with you then you're in for some trouble. Nowhere in that article does it suggest that 2 adults will be in any kind of difficulties using travelodge. What is this thread for?

Offline nigel4498

What Staff?
I've used TL and rarely see any staff.

Offline Jeff_withpetersen

I know someone who works in a hotel and she and her colleagues apparently cotton on when a WG is there very quickly - it's not as 'anonymous' as we might think when shifty looking dudes are randomly wandering around then knock on a woman's door, only to leave to be replaced by the next an hour later. But they just don't care - it's not illegal so why would they drive trade away by intervening?

The article in question refers to suspicions about a minor which as other posters have said doesn't have anything to do with punting.

I have met several girls, especially young Romanians who could pass for underage, thats the only reason I raised it. It doesn't matter if the girl is 18 if someone following company procedure thinks she might be underage, I wouldn't want to be questioned by Mr. Plod  even if everything was above board, just something to be aware of thats all.

Online myothernameis

Clearly if a paedophile is going to book a double room and bring a 15 year old girl, he not going to tell the truth when booking the room, more likely he will put down female over 18

Online myothernameis

Seems most of the travel lodges only do double beds, maybe something they could change, have some twin beds, and when you go ahead to book a room, with 1 adult and 1 child, the double room comes up as suitable for 2 adults

Family rooms available, with 2 double beds,  suitable for 3 adults, or 2 adults + 2 children

Good example of sexism towards single fathers.

Good example of sexism towards single fathers.

As a single father of an 11-year-old girl I'm pleased to hear about these security measures. I find it reassuring that companies should be on the look out for anything like this. I don't see it as sexist; fact is most of the sexual predators in this scenario will of course be male.

I do agree that some form of ID Verification for the daughter would improve the situation however

I doubt if any people on here would disagree with people in a position to look out for young girls being trafficked or abused bringing it to someones attention. I think that the problem with this event sounds like the insensitivity of Mr. Plod, It sounds like the young girl was really upset, I expect it ruined the outing for both of them. With the information available to the police, if they spoke to the father I am sure they could have established that the girl was his daughter.  It seems so often the police lack the training or they are just full of their own importance and have to make situations dramatic. Even if they had to speak to the daughter it could have been handled in a way not to upset her.

Offline Shearer1955

There might have been some insensitivity from the police but we don't really know how it was presented when they arrived in this particular incident. That said  in circumstances where there was potential for something far more serious to be happening it is better to thoroughly investigate the matter to their satisfaction.

I think the father got it right when he said there should be some sort of ID system operated by hotels which is usually the best way to verify an identity......can you imagine the furore if it hadn't been his own child

Offline CityTillIDie

Also important to factor in the reporting given the shit media and their insistence on sensationalism and bias

But yes, if I had been that Dad, there would have been some almighty shit for the pigs in question

This country has gone totally crazy. Feel sorry for the poor dad and his daughter, can't have been very nice for them. The media have brainwashed people to think all men are potential paedophiles.
