I thought the claim that face blurring would reduce the chance of an original image being discovered via google image search unlikely. After a couple of tests (with both a common image and an uncommon one, both prominently including the face of the individual the photo features), I can confirm that google image search can reliably match the blurred image to the original. Although the Visually similar images feature of search by image
is quite flawed
, it is capable of finding the original of images with minor modifications.
As for the actual reason, I'd guess that Cat Lady is correct and that the management assured the girls that their faces would be blurred in the pictures, but left them relatively un-blurred in the interests of attracting more custom.
