This is the same with lots of hotels.  You need to give to reception / there may or may not be a charge.  And then got to the var for a drink.  Better make sure there is one or else you'll look like a bell-end    They'll have no interest in your reg'n out of the thousands that go to the hotel

Stories such as this really put me off visiting hotels. In a perfect world I would just walk to a discreet in call venue and have total privacy.

It sounds as if the Hotel in question suffers from people parking illegally in the hotel,  probably not to catch punters out but it's all a moot point when they've got CCTV and they've clocked your time of arrival/departure. Obviously pay the fine ASAP no point this dragging on,  what you tell the misses will be up to you,  but I expect some tall tales or on the knees grovelling may help. Thanks for the heads up,  in future maybe taking a 5 minute walk from the local NCP would be good advice for punters who visit Hotels

Make sure she doesn't find out in the 1st place.  Grovelling is a bad idea - this gives them the highground.  You just have to conjure up some plausible reason as to why you were at the hotel.  Its not like you stayed there - which usually would be traceable & would leave a c.card trail etc.  If you're gonna tell a lie then make sure its a good one.  The best ones are short & simple - less angles to get questioning on.  If the missus asks if you were shagging some burd then ask her if she'd stay in that shit-tip hotel
