Anyone heard of the pill Truvada? its a combination of two anti-retroviral drugs used mostly by gay men to prevent HIV but considering I am a paranoid health hypochondriac myself Truvada pills plus always using a condom before banging an escort more or less means ZERO chance of hiv infection

Hard part is trying to get this pills on the NHS.

Anyone thought of this ?

Offline Malvolio

Bit paranoid - and not the best use of NHS resources in my view.

Offline whiskyfan

As a "paranoid health hypochondriac", have you read through the potential side effects yet? Why anyone would want to pump their body full of unnecessary drugs is beyond me.

Offline Brazilian Martian

Yeah it's called prep for short, a lot of gay guys use it now as an alternative to using condoms

Just no.

You would only take PrEP if you had bareback sex or a condom broke from a VERY VERY high risk event. In-fact, depending on the clinic you would not be given PrEP if you stated you had bareback sex with a female prostitute - only if you were told by her that she was HIV+ would you then be given it by the NHS.

If you were to purchase it online, you would more likely than not be buying Tenvir-EM, which is a cheaper version and not as successful in trials.

In summary you DON'T need PrEP - you should be far more concerned about hepatitis B rather than HIV; why, because it is 50 - 100 times more contagious than HIV (which is a lot harder to catch then you would otherwise of thought). As a punter if you haven't already got a hep b vaccination, get one - it's extremely simple and puts your mind at rest.

Spot on I would like to also add that for all the punters that like to do reverse rimming I would strongly suggest getting a hep b vacation.

My analogy is going out with a gun if you are somewhere where legal to carry.  A false sense of security & you're more likely to get shot.  And would you be really any good at using it ??  Rather than thinking about not getting yourself in some risky situation in the 1st place
The benders will think its hip to be on the drug & tell all their bum pal mates.  And live life 'on the edge' thinking they're well cool.  Apart from mincing around ain't that cool  :sarcastic:

What a lovely thought  :scare:   I bet punters avoid indian / pakistani burds for doing this.  Judging by what drops out of my ring-piece on a Sat morning after a madras / vindaloo on a Friday night combined with a load of lager

The side effects of prep are absolutely horrendous by all accounts. Wipes you out for close to a month I read somewhere.

If you are that paranoid stick some porn on and have a wank. Only way to be 100 per cent safe

My thoughts are that it would be a huge waste of public funds. If you're not satisfied with the protection that a condom gives you then punting is not for you.

Offline jawill

I suggest you don't punt. These pills are expensive and can do serious harm to you if you have no risk.

I would not mind buying it in the future as further improvements to these drugs are being made constantly furthermore I was only a tad more paranoid about HIV because off all the barebackers on this forum got me thinking about all the ways HIV can spread from a HIV positive bare backing punter to a non bare backing girl giving oral etc hopefully a more widely available prep drug will be on the market soon.

Offline jawill

Chances of a girl catching HIV from a HIV positive male from oral sex alone is very, very, very remote.  Infact, catching HIV at all isnt that easy believe it or not.  Its a frail virus and can only be transmitted if conditions are perfect.  For oral transmission, the girl must have cuts in her mouth, open sores, recent dental work etc.  The guy must have a high viral load.  So i wouldnt worry about oral sex as much, your much more likely to catch one of the more common STDs.

Provided YOU use a condom correctly and that includes for oral, then you are 97% protected from catching HIV.  The remaining 3% risk comes from incorrect condom use, faulty condom or breakage.  And if your giving the girl oral, then the risk to you is basically so remote any professional will tell you its nearly impossible to catch HIV from licking pussy.

So - if I said to you that you had a 97% chance of winning the lottery jackpot, what would you do?  Still not play?

As I said before, you do not need PrEP!

If you're that concerned I would stop punting and wait 30 years for a HIV vaccination.

Promiscuous sex will always carry STI risks. Even if we develop vaccinations against all the current diseases, nature will create some new ones. Viruses and bacteria are always one step ahead of mankind. We think we're the boss of the planet - we're not!

I don't know.  Imagine how many people have touched the stamps  :scare:

As for the % risk of catching HIV then its something like 1 in 1,000 - 2,000.  And that's going in uncovered.  Its all about how much activity.  Mr Scared as above will probably shoot his bolt PDQ which lessens the risk.  The prevalance rates are something like:  women 2 in 1,000 / men 4 in 1,000.  So 1 in 500 / 250.  Do the maths
Higher in males for obvious reasons.  Certain ethnic groups pose a much higher risk.  Not being racist - but the black community gets hit much harder
So avoid some Romanian skank who does BB, go for european burds & the odds start getting better
And hookers tend to have less HIV than the general population.  Coz in the main they use protection.  Whereas when shagging civvies how long does it take for condoms to 'go out of the window' ?

Tried to edit above & it went pear shaped  :dash:  Was only gonna mention that using nodders & you're generally sorted unless you are well unlucky

I think you may be confusing PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) which is to be used prior to and after sex, with PEPSE (post-exposure prophylaxis). PrEP is not, to my knowledge at least, available on the NHS; PEPSE certainly is, but tends to be most commonly administered to men who have sex with men after a high-risk encounter (such as bareback anal with an HIV+ partner or a partner whose status is  unknown but who is part of a high-risk group, such as a drug user or foreign national from certain parts of the world where HIV is especially prevalent).

Your advice about the Hep B vaccine is spot on: easy course of injections to protect you from a potentially serious virus  :hi:

This is great, but it's only for HIV positive couples.  Yes it reduced your chance of getting HIV, but when punting just use a johnny and don't get chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis either.

Its hard to give up I wouldn't say I am addicted to punting I actually haven't seen a girl since my last review which was like May or something. I will probably only stop once I get diagnosed with some std when that fateful day arrives I will be sure to inundate this forum with my sorrow and regret.

your chances of catching HIV from sex with a woman who is HIV POSITIVE, yes a woman who has confirmed HIV, if the sex is unprotected is 2500/1. Its obviously not impossible because you could be that unlucky fucker out of the 2500 but if you use a condom, dont sweat it. Like seriously chill

Isn't this the one that we are all paying for the NHS to give to gay men so they can have lots of unprotected sex with strangers?

Meanwhile IVF treatment is essentially being knocked on the head in most places.

Yes unfortunately gay men will enjoy unlimited anal sex while straight men like me will have to settle for condoms.
