Ready Reasons for being where you are

As I get older I must be getting more paranoid but I've been wondering about something recently..
That is what would I say if I met someone I knew (in the street!) on my way to or from a punt.

I prefer Sat or Sun punts and so in recent months I could occasionally be found scuttling round the streets (or hotels) of; Folkestone, Gillingham (twice), Heathrow and Central London

This slight anxiety won't ever stop me punting (when the small brain is in control nothing will),  just curious - does anyone have a ready answer or 3 up their sleeve?

I punt away from home, usually when working away, for this very reason. If I'm seen on my way to a girl's hotel or flat I can easily pass this off as where I'm staying for the night.

Punting after work, doing extra hours/playing watching sports it could go on. Best to keep it simple though, my ex even though I was genuinely behaving myself would still be suspicious, I used to blow smoke up her arse by telling her I was looking at a nice bit of jewellery or booking a holiday for her.

I'm new to the game but have resigned myself to punting from another city when I'm away on business as it avoids any issue with being seen in an unusual place in my home city.  It does mean less often than I would like but I guess it's not exactly a cheap hobby.

I always punt away from my hometown. I have a preference over what time I want my punt to start (2pm Monday to Saturday, and 4pm Sundays). If booking on the day, I contact the girl in the morning to arrange a meet, get it agreed, get the location details, and then set off to the city/town. If booking in advance, I would e-mail the WG a few days or a week before, asking availability via AW, get it agreed and send a booking request. Then the day before the booking, I would contact her to asking for confirmation if meet still on. If yes, I would ask for location details in the morning. Get the location details, then I set off to the town/city for my punt.

And when I do punt, it is always on a day that I am off work. That way I have all the free time to travel to the place, punt and have a great time, and travel back home. Just Pure Bliss!

I've occasionally *not* had a cover story and once or twice had a near miss as a result, so I always make sure I do now. I'm lucky because I work freelance and travel a lot, and when I'm out of town on business I don't have to account for myself.
When at home though I need to be careful- I have a few regular locals and have worked out a reason to be near each of them. One's near a supermarket I use, one's near a business colleague, etc.
Closest call I ever had was a ticket for driving in a bus lane in an area I had no connection with - luckily I saw it and dealt with it before the wife spotted it. So I now usually take public transport and if I have to drive I'm super careful.
