OK this is weird......

Tonight on Facebook, it the suggested friends bit, it came up with a WG I saw many years ago as a friend suggestion....

Now I do not have her number on my phone, I have a separate phone which does not have FB on it
I dont text her from the phone

The only thing I have done is use Incognito mode to access AW on my phone, which is under a false name.

So... how the flipping heck has FB linked her to me???!!!    This is freaking me out.  All my privacy settings are sorted, all private, but im worried now my face might appear on her suggested friends list now.

I dare say it has, you'll never know unless you ask her. FB really is the devil incarnate, I too have had girls I've seen come up on friends I might know. One was a girl I hadn't seen in five years. I think they come up if they've been looking and poking around your profile, which is worrying in its self.

Likewise.

The only thing I can think of is that Facebook is tracking any emails which you send even in Incognito mode and even with different email addresses.  Thats the only way I can think it is linking people.

Have you been logging onto facebook on a device you have used for research work etc?

Offline jawill

Yes - but again..... only in incognito mode.  Thats all I can assume is FB is still tracking you even with this mode on!

I find it difficult to understand how anyone with more than one brain cell goes on facebook and voluntary supplies fraudsters and conmen with all the information they need to set about robbing you, There was an item on the radio this week about users of a certain coffee chain getting to the payout with their named  cup and a sheet of paper with loads of sensitive information about them that the people who arranged the stunt had gleaned using their name as given to the counter assitant and a camera taking facepicks. It took minutes to find all a conman would need to hack accounts etc.
It was done to demonstrate how easy it is to create a profile for a conman to use.

I hate facebook but where I live, its an essential tool. All the girls are on it plus there are the secret and private  groups.

I have a fake account under a false name which I use for my punting activities. I also have a real account which, being abroad, I use to keep in touch with people back home. I always use different browsers when accessing each account and I don't have facebook on my phone.

Recently I have noticed that my fake ID has been suggested as 'people you may know' on my real account and vice versa. It fucking freaks me out. :scare:

Facebook is probably comparing IP addresses that you're using so, regardless of whether it's a different account or a different device it will still attempt to "guess" at which people you may know. You can avoid it by either not being on Facebook or not being on the internet. Tin foil hat optional.

I had a girl pop up on mine that I saw whilst she was on tour, turned out I had a mutual friend...BLOCK

Offline shaunogg

I have a personal face book linked to my personal email.
I also have a facebook profile and email under my shaun ogg moniker.
I use my phone, in incognito mode for booking accessing aw and here.
I have never had shaun ogg suggested to me as a friend on my personal facebook profile.
I think if you have a number in your phone log, then facebook suggests that person.
I had it once with a wg, but she appeared as a suggested friend on my shaun ogg facebook profile.

Or just get rid of Facebook, job done :hi:

I had a FB account a few years back, and despite how hard I tried I really couldn't find any enthusiasm for reading what someone had for dinner that evening, or boring pics of their cat/dog/rabbit/brat.

I also had no interest in reading posts from the twat I used to know at school, or the person I worked with a million years ago :unknown:

There are friends, and then there are Facebook friends.  I have friends

FYI, incognito mode is only incognito on YOUR device, i.e. the website you are using, your ISP etc still know exactly what naughty things you are looking up.

It works via personal phone numbers.

I believe it also works if someone searches you by first name on facebook.

Offline jimmytick

Press the X next tot he name on suggested friends and it wont come up again with that person.

Correct. Even if you use different browsers for the real and fake accounts

Excellent Tip!!

However, how do you deal with email notifications from FB, which "suggests" friends you may know??

Just get rid of Facebook, I haven't had it in years and have much more free time than before. Spending hours each day reading and looking at pics of friends seems nice, but what do you talk about when you meet them for a drink? Since you already know everything that they've been up to, including what they had for breakfast!

External Link/Members Only

It probably wouldn't explain connections made 5 years ago but physical proximity appears to be tracked in some way. So, if you're in the same location for say, 30 mins or an hour...

You may have a mutual friend ??? But I am very wary of FB  :bomb:

+ a million.  :hi:

A while ago at work, I had some dopey twat drone on about his FB account. I quickly started losing the will to live and he asked me if I was on it. I told him, ''No, never, I have a life in the real world''. He didn't look too chuffed - like I actually gave a fuck.  :sarcastic:

You may call it profiling, most members here would call it stalking.

Having done that, do you then tell your clients that you checked them out on FB?

How would you like it if I checked out your FB profile, without you knowing, before coming to see you.

EDIT.... Care to PM me your personal number?  :D

No love I don't do it all time ... Got a life to live lol ... But when you have yours number on a profile and getting call and txt not only from genuine punters ... Is good to know lol I'm not a person to get any advantage of what I know ... And I always tell my clients to be careful as some girls out there will use it ... So I always advice them to disconnect the phone number of Facebook and get £10 Nokia... I've got my life and family to loose ... To yours knowledge love I don't stalk my clients

You realise this makes your personal profile appear on the punter's facebook as "people you might know" ?

How many times.. :dash:

Use a very cheap, non smart, PAYG phone for punting.  Use completely separate laptop or PC for AW. Never log into Google..ever. Never use Facebook on this separate laptop or PC.

you're actually not that hard to find I'm afraid.

Offline Taggart

The whole FB thing is an invasion of privacy regardless of settings.

I have a FB account for work-related business, use a work email address too, but refuse to link my phone number. I decided to see who 'people I might know' might include, and fortunately none were WGs. In fact very few women, just one 8/10 girl at work with a gorilla BF.

To my mind, my decision to have a punting phone, a spoof email address linked to AW and always using a different to normal browser that deletes all history cookies and whatever on closing seems to have paid off, as the connection cant be made.

I just worry how fecking clever these algoryhtums used by FB, Google et al are, and that one day I will get caught out.

Offline aazbo22

It is very complicated why it happens but facebook will know which IP's log onto their site and same with AW and plant "cookies"

If you have accepted cookies to the device from AW and facebook both sites have the ability to work out you have been on the other site. This is the same as how re-targeted advertising works - ever been on a website looking for a holiday - then all of a sudden holiday adverts pop up on facebook and other websites.

what facebook does is see what other people have in common - i.e location, work, and also interests (including what websites people have in common using cookies) hence then "people you may know"

Also the same thing will happen if your searching for certain things using google and facebook search - if the interests are the same then Facebook might try and link you. Even coming onto this site - you may have other people from this site appear on your "people you may know"

sorry its long - but delete cookies and cache on you devices to stop this!
