Author Topic: Non-expiring PAYG SIM  (Read 2280 times)

I'm a low volume punter. For my last outing (around a year ago), I decided to get a new punting phone and a Lyca Mobile PAYG SIM. But now that I'm about to need it again, I find that the SIM has expired and can't be reactivated. I'll have to get a new one and a new number. Does anyone have recommendations for a SIM that won't expire and is good for low volume use - maybe once or twice a year?

You will need to call.up.the network.and tell them to switch the plan to a credit one as this phone is for your "elderly parent" and they should be able to do it.

I'm the same as you when it comes to punts only once a year etc

Nearly all phone providers, cancel a PAYG number after 180 days of in activity. If you want to keep the PAYG number, top up minimum top up amount before the 180 days are up.

I have an EE PAYG SIM. To keep it active I only need to use it (e.g. send an SMS or make a call) once every 180 days.

I know we all need to take security seriously.

But if you are punting once or twice a year……….do you need a punting phone. 🤷🏼

Absolutely yes.

02 classic is what you want, get one off ebay.

+1 , Agreed

then do the activation and subsequent topups in cash using paypoint in a sweet shop. only footprint is that the ebay seller posts to your house and might have a record of where a SIM was posted (unlikely but still a non-zero risk)

I use a dual sim phone and have PAYG in my secret folder. Mainly WhatsApp use that uses my sim monthly data

Just send a text to your real phone every couple of months - should do the trick?

just get a really realy cheap plan - Smarty do one for £6/m.

if you can't afford £70 per year, then you probably can't afford to punt either!

That defeats the point of an anonymous punting phone

A new sim costs £1 from Tesco and put you can put £10 credit on the new sim, not really going to break the bank is it

No. Which is what I've done. £1 SIM and £5 credit. It wasn't so much about the money anyway, but it means I have to have a new number each time I punt. That's not a disaster, but it is an annoyance that I was trying to avoid.

I used three payg for years but switched to O2 123 payg & my credit lasts much longer.

Can’t see why a new number would be a problem with your frequency, not like you’re trying to build up with a regular or get a good reputation. Just get a new number for each punt and you’re even more incognito
