This may be of interest to gents of a certain age, has certainly done wonders for me...

Tamsulosin (often known by brand names like Flomax) is an alpha-blocker primarily used to treat Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) by relaxing muscles in the prostate and bladder neck to improve urine flow. While not its primary FDA-approved indication, it is sometimes used off-label to manage sexual or urinary issues related to "delay" or dysfunction.

1. Delay in Ejaculation (Premature Ejaculation - PE)
Effect: Tamsulosin can cause or increase the delay of ejaculation.
Mechanism: It works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the prostate and seminal vesicles.
Side Effect/Benefit: While often considered a bothersome side effect (sometimes causing little to no semen to be released, known as retrograde ejaculation), this property can be beneficial for men with premature ejaculation.
Research: Studies have indicated that tamsulosin (0.4 mg) can significantly decrease Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT) scores and improve ejaculation control in men who also have BPH.

I was taking it for prostate problems and it killed ejaculation completely.
Besides which it dropped my blood pressure so low that I was falling over when queuing for the bus / in the pub / at the shop checkout.
Only take it on medical advice

I take it for urine flow, but if I take it before sexual activities, no spunk is ejaculated, so you need to plan when you take it

I wonder if I’ve been taking it accidentally.

I’ve fallen over in the pub a few times. 🤷🏼

I had breathing issues with feeling I had to take an extra breath at times during the day. Never suspected tamsulosin as taken it for 10 years for bladder issues - but when I stopped taking it the breathing issues went away and I also discovered that had been hindering/ making more difficult ejaculation. Was a total surprise!

Tamsulosin While not its primary FDA-approved indication, it is sometimes used off-label to manage sexual or urinary issues related to "delay" or dysfunction.

It's not really of interest as there's a snowball's chance in hell of a GP prescribing tamsulosin for this unlicensed use, especially as others have mentioned, there is the risk of falling over or worse because of this medication, potentially making the GP liable for malpractice, especially as there is a medicine approved by the UK's MHRA medicine regulator for treating the condition (Dapoxetine), as well as other solutions which a GP will be expected to explore first.

The only way someone is likely to get Tamsulosin for premature ejaculation are if other interventions have been explored and failed or deemed inappropriate, the patient has been assessed by a specialist in the field and the risks of taking Tamsulosin on an unlicensed basis have been discussed with the patient.

As has been said time and time again in these forums, it's best to take medical and healthcare advice from the professionals in the field.  Don't be shy to ask or visit, you're not the first, you won't be the last, and they're legally and professionally obliged to keep what you discuss confidential.

"While not its primary FDA-approved indication"

Yes within 24hrs of 1st taking it my ejaculation was no more , couldn't stand the sensation and piss poor orgasms so asked the doc to put me on Alfuzosin instead and got back to shooting a load  :yahoo: . Doc was totally unaware that retrograde ejaculation was a side effect of Tamulosin , mind you it was the same GP who was concerned on why my PSA level was high between a couple of tests a month apart . My google search came up with the info that men should be told to refrain from ejaculation ( my wank the evening before the test was why ) or exercise 48hrs before the test , something else he was totally oblivious about FFS  :dash:  .

Also don't ride a bike ,( of any description lol) before the blood test as that can spike a PSA result.

The GP should advise don't run , jump , fuck , fight , wheel a barrow or ride a bike 48hrs before

I been on it for years fro BPh and never had any issues with it good or bad.  It says don't take it with Viagra as it can lower your blood pressure too much.  Which is a pity as i've always want to try it.   Ps in the small print it says there is a 1 in 10,000 chance of permament erection. :)

I wish that was the case for me , it most certainly relaxes the prostate more than Alfuzosin does and cut back the night time getting up for a piss more . I just couldn't put up with the discomfort of a retrograde ejaculation and just about zilch sensation of having an orgasm .

Interesting post and please forgive me ignorance, Dr took me off alfuzosin and doxazosin and put me on tamsulosin a couple of years ago and been blowing dust ever since, assumed its was age and I had run out of bullets.

Horrid getting old, mind remains game the body less so

I used to suffer from PE sometimes, but started taking citalopram for a while which definitely delayed things. Pity I had to stop!
I'm now on Tamsulosin, and though I hadn't particularly noticed it, maybe it is having a similar effect, but not as pronounced. It does sometimes mean no ejaculation, but for me its not retrograde, just too little oomph to shoot it out. Just an annoying sticky dribble on the way home from a punt. (Changes boxers immediately on arrival).
