Author Topic: Dual SIM phones  (Read 2186 times)

Both my legit and my punting phones are getting towards the end of their lives, mainly because the USB C charging posts are worn out and unreliable.
The phone I'm considering to be my new legit phone (OnePlus 12) is dual SIM. Som I'm considering not having a second on phone and puttingy.pinting SIM into it.

Could someone who has this set up tell me how it works on practice?
If I have it set to "legit" SIM, will notifications for the punting number come through?
It is like having 2 separate phones with their own apps, Google account etc or if I install say Seeling app on the punting number, would that also be visible from the legit side?

Is there a way to hide/security protect moving to the second SIM to prevent curious children or suspicious wives finding something I don't want them to find?

Ta for any advice.

Problem with a dual sim phone is that all it does is give you two phone numbers and two different network connections.
It  doesn't separate out different mailboxes / histories / address books, everything gets lumped in together - you don't get discrete separate identities.

Better off with two phones

Thanks. I'll take my legit phone to Cex to sell to them and buy a "new" punting phone. Any change will be spent on getting my cock sucked.

Agree with Scutty, so many reasons for 2 phones, depending on personal circumstances.

1. Main phone can be left locked away, can't be stolen, and protects your personal info if an SP was to be snooping.
2. Main phone can be switched off prior to heading to a punt if a nosy wife/partner might check location history
3. Punting phone can be locked down without social media, to avoid embarrasing friend suggestions
4. Easier to switch punting phone off completely if required.

Probably loads of other reasons too that are not springing tomind at the moment.

Only one WhatsApp/number can be installed in a single phone so definitely a no-go for me

You can run a second whats app account on the same phone, albeit a WhatsApp business install.

WhatsApp on android supports 2 accounts with different numbers and then the ability to switch between them , but you still get notifications appear for which ever account is not selected at the time.

I have kept many a dual sim android device to avoid carrying a work and private phone.
It worked well, BUT you only get 1 set of social media apps - email etc
I wouldn't blur the lines with punting and civvy life.
Best keep them totally seperate and never text one number from the other, or email from your punting address to civvie email address.

I agree better off with two phones but with some Android you can separate users. If it supports E-SIMS you can usually have 6 numbers. You can have Email, pictures, notes and app that are totally separate on reboot it goes to the default user.
Latest Google Android you can have a separate sandboxed area a bit like the Samsung Knox security layer.

I have this on my punting phone. Default profile looks like basic apps Waze, X, Gmail etc, 2nd user (punting user) has Google Keep with my punting info, G-Maps , WhatsApp etc
I have little security features that wrong pin to unlock 3 times takes a photo and location of phone and sends it to me in the cloud where I can consider remote wiping or making the phone sound a loud alarm "This phone has been stolen, please call the police" until turned off / reset.

I use an iPhone. A physical SIM card for my business number, and a PAYG eSIM from Lycamobile for my secondary phone.

Two phones is the only way to do it, IMHO

Simple stuff like car bluetooth address books is difficult to keep totally separate if you're trying just to use a single device.  The usability when a phone has two numbers can also suck with some apps.

I'm glad you mentioned this, it's a feature I've been using since Android 15 was released, and it's an absolute godsend for keeping naughty things private.  I use it on my "main" phone, for things like having a second instance of chrome where I can browse things like UKP & AW.  I also have a separate contacts app in there linked to my punting persona Google account, all completely hidden from the main profile of my device.

You just hit the lock button, and it all disappears! Until the next time you manually unlock the private space.

Worth a try if you have the newer version of android

Google private space External Link/Members Only
is very flaky in my experience at present. Google say they have never scanned Gmail/Gdocs and presumably private space. As a test we searched for some random Unique item whilst in private space, switched to public when the email account (only ever used before for this specific item) Added an Amazon account and hey presto Amazon showed suggestions for said unique item (a specific car part SKU)

I imagine it will take a while to get to the same level of Knox at is UK /US government certified for classified assets.

Can confirm this is correct, if you have a dual sim phone android whatsapp supports 2 numbers with account switching.

Also so many people don't understand this point, regardless of what sim is in a specific phone, the device IMEI is still sent to the carrier, so it is possible to trace all sims in a specific phone and thereby pull data to identify from that, it is vulnerable. So many people don't understand this.

A dual sim phone, or one one in which you insert multiple sim cards, CAN NEVER be a "burner" phone.

But while that is useful info for drug dealers and other criminals, it's not about punting as SP's pimps and wives and girlfriends generally don't have the access to trace sims via those methods. As punters we have nothing to worry about in those sort of situatiions as we are not breaking the law.

I didn't suggest anyone is breaking the law, I said the use of the phone like this can make your data and identity vulnerable, whereas many clearly think swapping a sim makes them anonymous or effectively they are creating a "burner" phone, neither are true.

Also, to think such data is only accessed or of interest by breaking the law I don't think would be 100% accurate itself.

Not if they are E-SIMS, you erase and install another.  Obviously, the network will have a long log of all this, so not useful for privacy and can still be shared with LE. You could get a very naughty phone that can change its IMEI on demand, it might be illegal if used to de-fraud. Some older Samsung phones you can enter star commands to change IMEI, best performed offline from a network.

Personally from experience, I'd say have two separate phones. I once had two different numbers on my phone (one being my personal number). I tried to book someone whilst using both numbers through half a dozen texts by accident due to not having delicate fingers and sending texts through both numbers. the WG eventually asked if I was using two numbers as one phone number was responding to something she messaged to the other number.

I said yes and admitted one was a personal number. She was ok with it and booking still went ahead - just confused as to how the text messaging was going.

Even though she never contacted me again on either number after booking, it didn't sit right with me that my personal number was out, so after a week or two, I ended up getting two phones and to match with it, two different numbers (including a new personal number again).
