Hi members. I have enlarged prostrate (it's an age thing). Doctor putting me on Finasteride to help shrink it. Takes 3 to 6 months to take effect.

Information has it, it lowers / reduces your libido / sex drive :-(

Has anybody here been prescribed it ?

And what effect, if any, has it had on your libido / sex drive ?

At the moment I'm on Tamsulosin to relax prostrate and make it easier to pee.

I only have 2nd hand experience, being that of another person who reported directly.

Worked well regards removal or elimination of symptoms did not appear to have much effect on libido, however if your symptoms have blood in your pee and semen that may have already been a little off putting.

I've had this scare recently, just before Christmas; got the urge to piss and couldn't.  I am over weight though, gone on a crash diet and it's fixed it temporarily, not sure if I had a mild sti or just because over weight.
Scary nonetheless and truely horrible feeling, that feeling urging you to piss and then you can't.  I hope it works out for you.

I posted a question recently which I think may be related to your complaint....

Just read your thread. It is related. I also pee 2 or 3 times a night. Only small amounts though. Very thin stream and weak flow rate.

I found these interesting....

It looks like the passing of urine is related to the enlargement of the prostate, pressing against the urethra and causing the need to pee.
In my case, I'm not overly worried, but I do intend getting a checkup at the docs, notwithstanding delays caused by this damned virus.
All the best.

Have been through the entire prostate experience, so can offer a bit of advice here. An enlarged prostate won't kill you (as long as it's not cancerous, but even if it is, cancer cells often grow very slowly in prostates, so you may still be OK) but it is inconvenient, to say the least.

Mine was found to be enlarged some years ago, and I was offered the choice of drugs to reduce it, or an operation. The drugs aren't great and take ages to work and you may end up with man boobs and a squeaky voice. So I went for the op.

You're in and out in 3 days. It's a bit grim, and hurts when you pee for a while. But once it's all settled down, it's much better.

I'd recommend.

Any other symtoms? Do you urinate more often? Can you still ejaculate?

Yes, urinate more often.

Yes, can ejaculate. "But" had the snip many years ago, so not a lot comes out anyway. Also because of advanced years, less ejaculate anyway.

To bring this back from the dead.  My issue was weight related, since Christmas I've gone down 2 shirt sizes and my prostate problem has vanished completely.  I'm still rotund BUT losing weight steadily, hopefully by Christmas this year I'll be 12 stone, my ideal weight.

Update. Had prostate surgery a couple of weeks ago. It's called a TURP procedure. I'm now recovering. A little blood in my urine, some urine leakage, have to wear adult pads. Been advised 2 to 3 months healing process.
PS. I can pee better, more flow.
I am advised to drink 2 to 3 litres of fluid a day. Water, tea, coffee etc.
It was an overnight stay in hospital with a catheter fitted. Catheter now out.

I had a catheter fitted. I screamed when they put the catheter through my penis.

Apparently they say you can still have sexual intercouse with a catheter fitted. I don't see how that's possible  :unknown:

Yes, I shouted a bit when they pulled the catheter out  :(
The nurse told me it was going to hurt.
The nurse then showed me the end of the catheter, it had a bit of a ridge, and that's why it hurts.
There's no gain without pain, as they say.

That prostate biopsy gun isn't much fun. 12 needles whacked into your prostate at once, but at least you're lying down and not seeing it.  Fortunately, I was given the all clear and my PSA is now 0.6
