Author Topic: Coming off SSRI's  (Read 507 times)

Before I write anything let me just highlight that I'm not looking for medical advice here and I know when to contact my GP, just curious about anecdotal experience from others.

So as the title suggests I am currently going through the withdrawal phase after coming off SSRI's, specifically Sertraline. I've been taking it for a few years now and have spent the last six weeks or so phasing it out but this has caused quite a significant side effect which my GP seems to not give a shit about.

Some of you may be aware that Sertraline can be used to treat premature ejaculation as in some people it can significantly delay ejaculation. I can vouch for this as when I first started on it I could fuck for hours and found it very hard to cum but after a few months it settled down and I was back to normal. I personally was taking it for anxiety and have never before suffered with PE, however now I am off the meds I have suddenly experienced PE for the first time. From what I can find out this is a reported side effect of withdrawal but there is very little information on it.

To put this into perspective both before and during sertraline it was relatively normal for me to be able to last a decent amount of time. On a punt I generally only pop once in an hour as I'll normally be about 45 minutes in by the time I do. Since I came off the meds I find myself cumming after literally 20-30 seconds of any physical stimulation. Obviously I'm a little worried but the doc claims this is all psychological and says its not a known side effect of withdrawal.

Have any of you guys who've taken SSRI's had similar experiences? How long did it take for things to go back to normal, and did you have to do anything about it or just sit tight?

Then your doc is wrong. It is a well known side effect and I understand has to now be on the information sheet.

I'm afraid it is a waiting game as there is currently no treatment. Recovery is highly variable apparently. There is quite a good summary here but no doubt you have already googled similar  External Link/Members Only Perhaps your GP could read it too although there is little he can do if you are coming off treatment.

There have been periods in my life when I have been advised to try SSRI's, but have always declined because sex is such an important aspect of my life and there is a good chance it would be been affected. Hope things improve for you?  :hi:

As always the Doc gives some sensible level-headed advice. Here is some less sensible thoughts.

One question though, why is this a problem? Can you go twice? Or reduce to less long appointments? Or go have a massage first? I don't think any SP will be upset by you not banging away for 45 minutes.

Whilst I canunderstand your concern look on the bright side...look at the money and time you can save.

For punting I suppose it's not such a bad thing. The other day I was able to cum three times in 15 minutes!  The issue is that my civvy sex life is going to take a hit because let's face it nobody wants to be the bloke who can't manage more than half a dozen thrusts. I'm hoping it'll go back to normal in a few weeks. The gaslighting from the GP was what prompted me to post more than anything.

And yes, great link you posted there Doc thanks for that  :hi:

perhaps you just need to punt ugly women

As noted above time may be the only real answer, I note that you said while on SSRI it took months to return to normal and you have been reducing them for 6 weeks so perhaps not enough time for your body to readjust

For anyone reading this later who may be wondering what the answers are, my issue appears to be going back to normal by itself so it could be just part of the withdrawal symptoms that are fading away. I guess you could say my panic was premature  :D

Of course in the name of science I will continue to fuck women of all kinds to see how my results differ!

Very good  :D

That's good news, although you may miss the ability to orgasm three times in fifteen minutes  ;)

This morning I went to my support group for premature ejaculation.

Turns out the meeting is tomorrow.
