We didn't do food or a drink. But we did hang out for a while and talk to get to know each other. I don't remember her mentioning the need for social time. Anyhow, in general I prefer a slightly longer date 2-3hrs with some time at the beginning to decompress rather than rushing into the main course. It seemed to suit us well. She was cool and I liked her.

Why? 

Guys that prefer longer (like I do) bookings, and the OP has said he does, then having the ability to engage in conversation and interesting / stimulating ones too is important.

If you prefer 30min / 60min booking then much less of an issue, but for 2+ hours then I agree with the OP and always have a better time with an educated, engaging lady with can actually hold a conversation.
