The article reads "Goodmayes sits between Ilford and Romford in Greater London and some of its residents claim it is a crime, drugs and prostitution hotspot."

I had the worst FBSM punt of my life there.

Ilford is "gentrified"?!

Ilford is "gentrified"?!

How ridiculous, the person saying that must have lived in the Donbas war zone 😅

A very long time ago I used to live in Ilford on the Seven Kings bungalow Estate. That's the best that Ilford has and there's no way I would want to live there now.

Gentrified..... I've driven through recently, it's a shit hole.

The back streets behind the station where most of the brothels are especially.

Well maybe it is gentrified, let's see.

Gentrified meaning
(of a formerly poor urban area) changed in character by wealthier people moving in, improving housing, and attracting new businesses, often displacing current inhabitants in the process.
Don't sound like Ilford to me.
Maybe he meant Woodford which would be more accurate  :sarcastic:

Woodford has never been in need of gentrification, it has a large cricketing green and a massive private school, plus huge houses.

Well apart from that rough estate where all the brothels are.

Not forgetting the famous Ilford lane … my that used to East London’s red light district before cctv and the police / residents got involved

I'm surprised no mention of goodmayes sauna

Yep, Woodford is a dump, have council blocks next to 2-4 million quid houses. :)

Ilford is "gentrified"?!

Would surprise me. I worked there in the 90's and it was a bit of a tip to be totally honest.

You'd think the new Crossrail station would have helped the "regeneration" but it didn't!

I think the title of the thread probably answers that one for you  :sarcastic:

Same station that was always there, but now you can get a train straight through to the West End.

Plenty of more salubrious places on the Elizabeth line for people to live in - those new blocks of flats in Stratford seem to be popular.

I’m often out and about around goodmayes till the late hours. Eyva does a fantastic Turkish but I must admit apart from the usual spots ‘spa’ I’ve not seen much street action

I went recently. It’s ok but it’s too obvious in terms of location. Mask and balaclava kinda of obvious. Road is super busy
