I had a major operation in March this year, open surgery.  Although not the same as your operation, I had my gallbladder removed.  I also had anxiety, it was nothing to worry about.  General anesthetic, out for around 2 hours, groggy and back on a ward.  NHS not private.  Greatful, I had a brilliant service, had to go back again to get some stones removed as 2 were floating around the bile duct.  Again general anesthetic and again no worries.  Although not your age, I'm not that far off.

Recovery time is generally down to you, it took me 2 weeks to get back to normal which was what the text books say, hopefully yours will be text book too.  Best of luck, although you really won't need it.  They are professionals.

I had a double hernia repair a few years ago which was done by keyhole surgery. All very straight forward and I just have 3 small scars each about a centimetre in length. 2 weeks later I was back driving and at work on lightish duties. I'm sure you will be fine. It's far less invasive than years ago. Just ensure you top up on pain relief regularly and take things easy post surgery.

When they actually get round to doing ops there is nothing to be anxious about, they will not do it without all the staff required in place and it is a well oiled machine at that point and works very well.

For my awaiting op I had a consultation with the surgeon doing it, told me within 2 months as the waiting list was short.

4 months later got the GP to chase it, he neglected to put me on the list  :dash:. Now they cannot give me a date as their is a shortage of people to knock you out. , I did offer to bring Frank Bruno

Once you get past that, nothing to worry about.

Had one about 10 years ago.
Open surgery, mesh put in.
Was on full pay, so took 6 weeks off.
Been OK ever since.
Can't remember, how long I abstained from sex for  :unknown:

Likewise, had mine done about 10 years ago. 6 weeks off work , in and out of hospital within a few hours. Waited until stitches dissolved before doing anything strenuous.  Was told not to drive for 3 weeks too. You will walk a bit gingerly for a few weeks, getting dressed a bit tricky, couldn't bend down to put my shoes and socks on, apart from that nothing to worry about. Forgot to add they shave your groin area to do the op and it itches like fuck when they start growing back ( at least mine did  :D)

I read hernia ops can be done using keyhole surgery and one should be back at work within one to two weeks on light duties. Best luck

That is where we are heading, pay or pain.

All the strikes will do is hasten the demise of the NHS, multi nationals are buying up GP surgeries, private GP and hospital service advertising is on the rise, private Ambulance services are popping up everywhere.

The sign board in reception, designating floors for departments, had one bigger and bolder than the rest, " Barts Private care " in an NHS hospital.

It will come through the back door, run down the NHS to the point we will pay to avoid it.
